Winter Gardens
Hi,
We are looking at a visit here for the day as we have heard some good things about this old town including a boat ride along canals and the lake. Anyone else been there. Is it worth the visit? Thanx |

To be honest I'm not aware of any scenic boat rides at Winter Gardens but I'm sure that I'll be corrected if I'm wrong.
There are very pleasant lake and canal boat tours at both Winter Park and Mount Dora and we've done both in recent years. WP and WG are about 20+ apart. Mount Dora is around 20 miles north of WG Both WP and WG have pleasant downtown areas for a stroll round. WP has the Morse Museum with a massive collection of Tiffany glass Mick

There is one but it is not in the town like Winter Park, which I guess is where the OP is thinking off. Sorry if wrong!

Not aware of any boat tours at Winter Garden and not sure I would really want a tour on Lake Apopka (its a dead lake they have been slowly trying to revive for the past 20+ years).
Winter Park certainly does have a boat tour and worthwhile visit. The link below is a boat tour of the Butler chain which is Windermere. You will get to see lots of very nice homes and the Butler chain is much larger than Winter Park, including the massive home built by David Seigel (Westgate Resorts) and his former home that his ex-wife now resides in. Winter Garden is certainly worth a visit if you have time (also much closer to the Disney area and much easier to get parked). They have really revived the area over the past 15 years and now has lots of mostly independent stores, restaurants and bars. Particular favorites are Axum Coffee who donate all profits to a village in Ethiopia, The Chefs Table at the Edgewater which is consistently voted one of the best restaurants in Orlando and the Crooked Can micro brewery, but there are plenty other options. They also host antique car shows certain weekends but that does get very busy. |

Looks like the Butler chain is another to add to our list.
Next time we visit WP we are going to use Sunrail and catch it in Poinciana. Ridiculously cheap at around $6 return for two seniors. Has to be a week day I think but does avoid I-4 for us. OP - If you decide to go to WP you can also add Harry Leu Gardens which are only about 4 miles away. Mick

Well, I never realised it was Windemere. We went along the Winter Garden Road to get there and just reckoned the boat ride was Winter Garden, either way preferred it to Winter Parks boat ride.

State Road 535 is also known as Winter Garden Vineland Road from Lake Buena Vista up to State Road 50 (Colonial Drive). I wasn't aware that there were organized boat tours of the Butler Chain like they have up in Winter Park, despite living in Windermere for over 12 years. They certainly don't advertise it to any great extent in the area.

I've never heard of it either. Looks great. I do like Winter Garden as well. Both the actual historic downtown and the "Village" shopping center.

WGV is just about our nearest B&BW although according to Gryff one is due to open at the new Posner Park development.
