You could sign up for a sim only deal with vodafone whcih includes global roaming PLUS (so u can use in USA) or get a 3 payg sim

The three data is unusable it’s fine for calling home or texting home but the data is dreadful.

You need to speak to your provider to get options

I used three 2 weeks ago and found it fine. There is actually Wi-Fi most places so it was only occasionally I needed to use it on data but it worked when I needed it too.

Others say the Three data is good, remember it uses the same networks as others so AT&T or Verizon, if you get a bad signal with one force it on to the other.

It is possible to buy a SIM in the states.

Either way you need to ensure your phone is unlocked. My Vodafone phone was locked and I had to request it be unlocked which took two weeks.

We used a 3 PAYG sim a few weeks ago when we were over there and it worked really well. As others have said WiFi is really widespread which helps but for £20 we had useable connectivity for browsing, WhatsApp, sat nav etc

I have a contract with 3 and have used the go roam throughout our holiday. I was even using my phone to whatsapp my dad when we were 5 miles out at sea! Hubby is with vodafone and he can use his data, minutes and texts with no additional charges. We have used it for satnav and calling American numbers with no charges
