Mobile AKL - Standard Room

Hello all,

Looking to book AKL for 15 night at the end of August next year. We can’t really justify paying for a Savannah room so we’re going standard which we are happy with. I believe sometimes you can end up with a savannah or partial savannah view even when booking a standard. I was wondering if anyone has had experience of this?

I stayed there when I was 12, and I’m pretty sure we were “upgraded”, I don’t know how unusual this is?

Yes. Twice. We requested a room on the Kudu trail and had a lovely partial view.
A request is just that though and it's possible you won't get one. There are however loads of lovely areas around the hotel where you can sit and watch the animals.
I'd happily stay in a standard room again and take the chance on the view. Put Kudu trail as your first request or your only request if that's what you really want.

We’re happy with standard view too. Savannah view would be a welcome bonus though! I’m considering faxing a polite request through after we book! We’d like a king bed too rather than 2 doubles with it only being the OH and me, so I’ll be faxing that through anyway

We have twice has a partial Savannah view. But last time at Kidani it was made very clear that we would not have a Savannah view and we didn’t. But it didn’t really matter we still saw plenty of animals.

Lots of standard rooms overlook the front of the hotel so manage your expectations.

When I was changing my booking (again ) the other day, the agent was saying that they allocate the king rooms out first to couples leaving the doubles available for families. I certainly hope this is the case, as king room is the only request I'm making. Wish it was a separate booking category at the deluxes like at the moderates!

Anyway, as others have said - request Kudu Trail.

I had a standard room in october and although I didn't expect an upgrade or even a partial savannah view, my room was facing the front of the hotel and the window/balcony were completely covered by the roof overhang. We didn't even get any sunlight let alone a view.
We didn't complain because we weren't spending much time in the room but if your view is a concern id recommend making a request!

We have a Savannah view booked for April. It was all they had left as I changed my dates but I would have been perfectly happy with a standard view, plenty of other opportunities to see animals.
