Laminate on stairs
I am looking to see pics of anybody that has laminate on their stairs.
I am particularly interested in what type of nosing people have. There isn't a laminate nosing in the right colour so my options are metal or upvc.

Not to say it can't be done as everything is possible. I have never seen it though sorry.
I also wouldn't be inclined to cut off the existing nosing. I would rather pack out the riser than mess with the tread. Found this though directwoodflooring... AEgLbbvD_BwE floorsave/flooring...ir-nosing.html

We don't wear shoes upstairs so noise not an issue. I'm not too worried about the slippiness, I don't wear socks in the house, I am always barefoot. DH & DS will just to learn not to slip lol.

If you are going to pack out the tread as Mr T say then you just need to make sure that the depth of the tread still conforms to building regs as its something that a (picky!) surveyor could pick up on if you ever come to sell the house.

We have a step down from dining area. When we had the laminate done in the dining room, we had it put on the step with a metal edging. When we recaroeted the lounge we replaced the laminate with carpet as the metal edgecwas unfomfy to step on.
Ours was about an inch wide and the laminate sat in it. There might be better options around now. Agree with another poster though, it could be very slippy on a full staircase!

Thanks for your reply. No idea what that means about the riser lol.
The pics do have more colours so that's a possibility.

Ha ha. Ex Carpenter!
Stairs as they are fitted have 3 component parts. Treads which is the bit you walk on. Risers are the back bits where you 'kick' against as you walk upstairs, they link the treads together and will be notched into the tread above and screwed into the tread below. Strings are the side pieces of the stairs, normally 9" x 1.25" where the treads and risers slot into and are glued up. After my 4 year apprenticeship and having a City & Guilds qualification we were allowed to apply to be a Member of the Institute of Certified Carpenters. They supplied you a 'cutting list' of timber the day before and you tried to work out what you had to make - we all failed to work it out. The day of the exam we had to individually make a section of a spiral staircase in 8 hours. hard work!

My parents house used to have open tread wooden stairs. The amount of times I slipped/fell down them as a kid! My parents had them carpeted after mum took a nasty tumble. They look good, but from experience I wouldn’t have wood or laminate.

Ditto - and varnished too! Mum took a tumble while carrying her sewing machine, the old Singer type in a wooden case. Fortunately, it went down first, taking a gouge out of each tread as it went, no idea how it didn't go through the wall at the bend at the bottom of the stairs.
