Mobile BA fly drive, Avis

We’re flying into Miami next week on a fly drive with BA. Do you need to use a credit card with Avis? And how much is the hold?
On the BA website it says a hold of £100, but people seem to be saying lots of differing amounts, of up to £300. Just wondering if anyone had been lately?

On a BA booking with Avis, they put a hold of £100 on your credit card.

If you have a speciality car booked, (ie - SIGNATURE SERIES - you may be asked to provide 2 credit cards in your name, however it does clearly state this on them models (BMW 5 series, X5's, Navigators etc )

2 years ago we did the same deal with BA/Avis. A tip is to carefully check the paperwork you get when you pick up your car - it should say 0 cost at the bottom (we didnt check ours and ended up paying £50 for something we hadnt agreed).

I never had that problem before when booking Avis directly (many times) so I was surprised.

Also if you havent already - sign up for Avis preferred and link your booking (think we called BA to do that) so you can go directly to garage.

I will check the paperwork for that, thanks.
I have signed up for Avis preferred and have it linked.
We have used Alamo twice before but the fly drive came up the cheapest hence using Avis this time.

This happened to us as well. I had forgotten though until you mentioned it. We have a fly drive booked for next month, so a great reminder for me to check the paper work - thank you

My last 2 booking has been $100 hold not British pounds, per booking.
The hold actually dropped off a couple of days after dropping car back off.

I asked Avis what the hold would be and $100 was the answer.

Can you go straight to the garage if it's your first time using AVIS but have signed up for Preferred. I'm sure I read if it's your first time you still need to go to the desk.

Thanks Mick, I only ask as we are doing BA flydrive into Miami in October and wasn't sure if I could go straight to the garage. This is my first time using AVIS, normally use Alamo. I've signed up for preffered so I'll check the board to see if my name and parking space is on it, cheers.
