Four Moretons Go West EASTER 2018 - Day 7 The Disney Museum and Golden Gate Bridge

Day 7 - Saturday 31st March – Disney Museum and Golden Gate Bridge

Despite yesterday’s full on day we were all by 7am, called Lee’s mum and dad who said it had been raining for 2 days solid back home. Thankfully there was no rain in our forecast, but it was forecast to be a little cloudy and cooler. The plan today was to do a bit more sight-seeing, then go to the Walt Disney Museum before finishing off by trying to get some good photos of the GG bridge. Jacob and Lee were not the quickest to get ready this morning mainly because they found some football on the tv (West Ham v Southampton).

Once ready we walked down to Fisherman’s Wharf to find some breakfast. We ended up in a place called Jack in the Box which is similar to McDonalds. It was no frills and the food was mediocre at best, it wasn’t the cleanest place in the world and we won’t be going back.

We had some pictures taken by the trams by some nice people that offered to take out piccie before walking up to Lombard Street.

It actually wasn’t as far as we thought but man those hills are steep. You do get some nice views from the top though!

We took some pictures at the bottom, along with all the other tourists. Before popping bag to the hotel to grab our bag and get the car out. I love how the street names are carved into the pavements!

I wanted to go and see the Mrs Doubtfire House and the Painted Ladies; thanks to the Sat Nav we were there in no time. We spent some time outside but did feel a little uncomfortable that we were looking around somebodies home, although they must be used to it. We looked at the memorials on the pavement outside to Robin Williams and remembered how much we love this film!

There was no where to park by the painted ladies so I had to quickly duck out the car, grab the photo and jump back in! the things we do, the picture turned out rubbish too so that didn’t work!

Next up was a visit to the Disney Museum, this is where the fun began. Lee put in Montgomery Street in to the Sat Nav. We ended up in the financial district in Union Square at a completely different “Montgomery street” but nevertheless it was also called Montgomery Street so my advice – please make sure you get the right one!

We drove around in circles for 30 minutes before finally getting on the right track. The tension in the car was quite high at this point, as the traffic and congestion around Union Square was awful and I vowed never to drive around this area again - most of our family arguments happen in the car 😊.

The Museum was located in a lovely area, quite a million miles away from Union Square. We managed to find a spot right outside. It was $80 for us all to enter and they had some very interesting information on Walt Disney.

The boys found a lot of it quite boring and it could may be do with some more interactive areas/exhibits to make it more appealing for families. If you are interested in Walt Disney and his life then it is a great museum.

Lots of great exhibits and information around. Including my own favourite "Pinocchio"

You also get some great views out of the large windows of the GG Bridge.

At the end there is a large great model of the original Disneyland that we spent time looking over.

The overall opinion of the Museum was that it was slightly overpriced but we were glad we went. It took us around 90 minutes to go around, you could take a little bit longer if you wanted.

We grabbed a hot chocolate from the café inside the Museum and drank it outside on the lovely lawned area just outside. We spent about an hour here, the boys loved running around and playing on these funky red chairs. There were lots of groups of people socialising and playing sports on the grass. The weather was nice and warm and we enjoyed our time here.

To avoid any more sat nav errors, Lee drove us towards the bridge. The plan was to take some better pictures but when we got to the spot, I had researched the fog was covering a lot of the bridge. We still parked up the car and took some shots but they were not as good as I would have liked. It had become quite chilly and there was a strong wind blowing but we were quite high up.

We headed back to the hotel; Lee drove again. It was now 3pm so we just made a quick stop at the hotel to drop the car as we wanted to head towards Ghardelli Square to find somewhere to eat.

As it was Easter Saturday, everywhere was quite busy, we passed through Del Monte Square and then into Ghardelli Square. Every restaurant we liked the look of had queues outside the door. We did come across the Easter Bunny which pleased Lucas.

The boys played for 5 minutes on the beach while Lee and I decided where we could go to eat.

We carried on walking aimlessly until we came across a Dennys which is inside the Holiday Inn. Let’s just say the less said about this meal the better. Poor service, poor food and poor surroundings. We vowed no more Dennys this holiday. Today had not been a good day for food!

We strolled back up to Fishermans Wharf, it was heaving but the boys wanted to go back into Musee Mecanique as we told them we would not have time tomorrow. We eventually got back to the room just after 7pm. Although the day had not gone to plan in any shape or form, we still managed to do lots of new things. I was glad we saw Lombard Street and the Mrs Doubtfire House and I did enjoy finding out more about Walt Disney and his life.

A lovely day exploring, I loved seeing the Mrs Doubtfire house and Lombard St again.
We didn’t end up at the Walt Disney museum as it was only me that wanted to go, it looks really interesting but can imagine the teens would be bored!
A shame about the rubbish food today but still a great day overall
