I’ve mentioned on a couple of occasions that my nephew and his fiancée are police officers in the Met.

Yesterday they both received commendation certificates for the parts they played at the London Bridge terrorist bombing ‘Incident’ in June 2017.

... and you should be. They play a very important role in society, not always best served by their leaders either. Putting their lives on the line on a daily basis.

Well done to them both.

If anything like the police I know, they are likely to say something self-deprecating like "it's just what I was trained to do".

I disagree, it takes a special type of person.

Training helps, but still it's down to the individual, especially in rapid response situations like that.

The only downside is due to COVID they couldn’t have family members there - my brother would have loved it.
