:) Discovery cove

If there was a thunderstorm and we could'nt swim with the dolphins , do we get a refund, or wait until it passes? How likely is it that the weather could put a stop to things, we are going in August.

The secret with Discovery Cove,is to arrive early and get an earlyswim,
thunderstorms are quite common in the summer usually about 4 pm,no one
is permitted in the water,but usually they pass over quite quickly.

I agree, arrive early and get a morning slot or play it according to the weather forecast.

I don't know DC's rules on this but I'm sure someone can help.

I have read in another thread at sometime that you can phone the previous afternoon and book your swim time. Thats my plan in July.

You can book your swim time when you 'check in' early swim times are always the best, it usually avoids the thunder storms, and leaves you the rest of the day to play in the rest of the park.

Discovery Cove will not let you in the water when a lightning strike is reported within 12 miles of the park.
The storms usually pass very quickly though, and shouldn't put to much of a damper on things (excuse the pun).

They don't give refunds, they say you will get your swim whatever so you could be there late.

As others have said, get there early so that you can get a before lunchtime swim with the dolphins.

I asked DC the very same question, this was their reply:

Dear Phillip,

Thank you for contacting Discovery Cove regarding your upcoming visit. We always appreciate hearing from our guests, especially when they suggest ways in which we improve the services we offer our guests.



For safety reasons, we reserve the right to close specific attractions due to weather conditions. The dolphin pools are one of the last areas to be closed due to severe weather based on our ability to exit guests from the water quickly in this controlled environment. Our other attractions are less structured and therefore require more time to exit in cases of severe weather. Currently, our interactions continue if there is no lightning within 5 miles. This allows our guests to experience the interaction, even if it happens to rain on the day of their scheduled visit, without a sizeable delay.



Additionally, instances of closure due to circumstances beyond our control are assessed on a case by case basis and management evaluates each situation accordingly.

Oh, they must have changed this, when I was training we were told 12 miles.

I also asked them when I booked, about booking swim time the day before, they said it would a request only
