Stunning Scenery, wildlife and our "Wonder"ful Disney friends! - Rockies & Alaska Aug 2014 - Day 13

Friday 29th August

We docked around 7ish in Juneau and had breakfast in Beach Blanket.

We met in Diversions (one of the bars) for 10.15 for a trip dog sledding. We had to wait around for a while as people didn't turn up on time. We then realised that we should have booked the later trip which was cheaper as it looked like the trip was being run by the same company.

We were take on a 20 minute bus trip to Douglas Island.

There were 6 of us who went on the cart first and we were pulled round at about 12mph. The girls were happy that they could go in the front, but they had to cover themselves up in plastic as it was a bit messy! It was amazing how they know when to go, stop and got excited when they knew they would run.

The dog sled driver (musher) took photos of us and then they all came back and had water. We were introduced to them all.

Went to another musher who took us over a little suspension bridge. She then told us about racing and how they were dressed for sledding in the snow.

There was a dog called Cassie there who was incredibly docile. She was bred to race as her parents were very fast, but she was very slow, so she now entertains the tourists with her cuteness!

We then went off to cuddle the puppies who were so sweet.

After a hot choc and good hand wash, we were back on the mini bus and dropped off in town.

We did a bit of shopping again and caught the shuttle bus back to the ship.

We ordered room service for lunch.

A nice couple of hours was spent watching Frozen 3D in Beauna Vista Theatre.

We looked at our photos in the folder in Shutters. It seems such a huge waste of money printing all photos out for each room if they are not all bought! We never bought any as we just asked the photographer to take photos of us with our own camera. The only things we are missing are the boarders on the photos.

The big show tonight was Toy Story the Musical which had fantastic toys and costumes!

We queued for a photo with Jessie before we had dinner in Parrot Cay which was the Toy Story Menu. They gave us 3D glasses for the menu, but the only 3D bit was a picture on the front of the menu!

The girls and I had some kind of bread for starter which had caramelised onions, pear, blue cheese and walnuts on it and Martin had a seafood cocktail.

Emma then had the seafood cocktail which had prawns, lobster
and crab in it. She said it was lovely. The rest of us had a spicy tomato soup which wasn't very spicy!

For main course, Martin had a rib eye steak, Katie had a sirloin steak, Emma had lobster which server had to cut and I had chicken and some kind of tasty mash.

For dessert Martin and I had a chocolate layer cake with coffee and baileys. The girls didn't want anything on the menu, so Katie asked for a cookie and got 3 and Emma asked for a banana split and got a nice big one.

We were reminded that tomorrow was character breakfast and not to be late as characters are not at table long and won't come back to the table.

After dinner we went to watch Pixar Party. If was ok, but prefer the pirate party with fireworks. We can understand why they don't do it, because of the wildlife. Some people were dressed up as pirates, so they must have thought there was a pirate night on Wonder like the other ships.

Notice the children behind Woody dressed as Woody and Jessie. Every night they wore a different character outfit all made by their mum. Must have taken her hours and cost a fortune! They got plenty of attention though!

Due to be at Ketchiken for 11am, but have been told due to a medical emergency on board will be there for 8am.

The captain had certainly put his foot down and the boat was swaying
lots, so decided to put youngest sea bands on as she slept. She had been fine all week, but was worried it might be a bit too rough.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post! You certainly packed Alot into today.

Dog sledding looked fun ... They use different dog breeds to the sledding we did in Finland!

Yes it was a busy day!

They were huskies that they use, but I guess there are different breeds of husky?

They were very sweet as puppies!

It was fun, but to be honest, although we all enjoyed it, we often say we wish we had done whale watching instead.

Are you doing the one in the Forest like us or on the glacier? The glacier one on our trip got cancelled due the weather as the could not travel there by helicopter.

Enjoy your trip to Alaska.

We are doing the Glacier one in Skagway and then whalewatching in juneau. I'm just hoping for good weather but if it does get cancelled we will just have to see if there are any spaces on the forest one. If not it's a good excuse to go back!

Fingers crossed for you - I'm sure it will go ahead.

The glacier one would be fab, but by the time we got ourselves in gear, that and the whale watching had sold out. We didn't book the forest one until we were actually in Canada in the Rockies!
