Annual Dues Advice

Hi, having rented our 1st years points via David’s, I attempted to pay my annual dues using the guidance kindly provided on here to purchase target e-gift cards with my dollar paypalbalance.

All worked well with a few $25 cards, then a test $100 so I thought was ok to purchase a $500 card. Unfortunately the Target website came up with an error message that wouldn’t allow me to ‘complete purchase’. The authorisation has however held on my paypal account.

I have emailed target who say it’s PayPal’s fault and only them can remove the hold, and spoken to paypal who say only target can remove it. Having been passed back and forth since 31st December when I tried to make the payment, I’m still no further. I suspect I will have to wait the 31 days it takes for a hold to automatically drop off.

My question is, will it impact my DVC contract if I wait for the hold to drop off and therefore miss the 15th January deadline. Or would you advise payment on my Halifax Clarity card and just accepting the loss with exchange rates - both on the clarity card and then transferring dollar paypal balance back to sterling?

I’ve a reservation booked for April this year so don’t want to risk that being cancelled!

Ps aside from this issue, the guidance for paying using paypal balance works great and was easy to follow!

It may affect your account with Disney but usually it's when the arrears run into months not days. You could always ring member services and explain to them you may be late paying saying why.

It won’t affect anything with Disney until it’s 30 days late. Which is 15th Feb.

No, it doesn’t become overdue until 15 Feb. Then it definitely would affect you as they’d stop you booking. So just pay before 15 Feb and you are good.
Whilst a good idea, the Target gift card thing does seem a lot of messing about and this seems like a real downside.

Thanks everyone. I will hang on for another few days and see if the hold drops off. appreciate the advice

Definitely stick to small amounts if trying the target gift card method, I’ve paid approximately $300 off using smaller amounts high all worked ok, and it wouldn’t have been so bad if It had failed on a $25 request.

So sorry to hear this and now feeling really guilty.

Hope you can get it sorted soon and as previous Dibbers have mentioned you have until the 14th Feb to pay your dues in full.

Over the last few years we've paid on the 13th and 14th Feb and once even on the 15th at 4.17am UK time, so 11.17pm EST on the 14th Feb and it's never effected our reservations or incurred any late fees.

Please keep us updated on your progress, especially if it's not sorted at 31-days.

Good luck with your next Target purchase and happy planning with your first DVC vacation in April

Definitely no need to feel guilty Br’r Bear, It’s a great workaround and I’d use it again just sticking to lower transaction amounts. I tried 25, then 50 then 100 and pprobably should have stopped there.

Think I’ll pay using my clarity today as just want it out of the way now!

Mostly am frustrated with PayPal’s lack of assistance as from working for a bank I know we could have done something to resolve a similar pending transaction issue.

Now to start planning fast passes and researching what to do at Beach Club and Copper Creek 😃

That's good news and I now know who I can go to if I have an issue with my bank, just joking.

As for the Beach Club, suggest pencilling in some relaxation time at Stormalong Bay and if you want to make a room request we use the floor plan map at dvcinfo/dvc-information/...h-club-villas/

just remembered I said I’d update how I got on. I got absolutely nowhere with either target or Paypal complaints, however the ‘hold’ dropped off after 30 days so I was eventually able to get access to the dollars I had in paypal.

I didn’t have the nerve to not pay my annual dues so used clarity card for them and then transferred the paypal dollar balance I to sterling to pay it off. Exchange rates were kind to me so it didn’t cost much, just a couple of quid.

I’d definitely still use the target gift card method again, but would leave plenty time and just do small amounts at a time
