Newport Bay for Christmas - Day 3

It was a cold, damp morning today - but not raining, more like a very heavy mist. We had breakfast in bed again, and then headed out to the Studios for rope drop - which isn’t as impressive as it sounds as the park didn’t open till 9.30am, giving even us time to get through security etc.

There was a queue but not too bad and most people seemed to be heading to Crush’s Coaster or ToT, so we power walked to Ratatouille where we got straight onto it, came off and immediately rode again - we love this ride. As we left, the lines were quite long.
La Place de Remy looked lovely with the Christmas overlay, and all the bright red food market stalls - we got salted caramel crepes and enjoyed them, then went and checked out the shop which often has Parisien gifts in too.

Pixar Place was next, and we rode Slinky Dog and the Parachute drop (it was very cold up there ) then we started to look around the rest of the park - well, what there is of it at the moment. The lines for ToT and Crush were around an hour each, so after a look in the ToT shop we went to see what theatre shows are on - the answer? None. We knew that half of the park is closed for the new Marvel land but expected that the rest of the park would be up and running to make up for it. The 2 lovely big theatres are only used for character selfies currently. The Cars Road Trip (was previously the Backlot Tour) wasn’t on either.

The Frozen show which is in the animation building had just gone in - and as it’s a standing show with lots of kids (obviously) on shoulders, we weren’t too bothered about waiting for another showing, but we timed it just right to see the Christmas show in the centre of the park with Goofy and Donald (it’s billed as a parade on the App) and it was freezing watching it, so we went straight to Studio 1 for a coffee to warm up. We had planned to have lunch there too, but as its the only QS restaurant open the lines for food were all around the area, so while we had our coffee we used mobile ordering for lunch at the Hyperion in Disneyland Park and headed off for a ride on the Magic Flying Carpets, after which we wandered through the shop in Studio 1 and went off to Disneyland Park.

We went straight to Discoveryland and on the way to the Hyperion for lunch we passed Buzz with a 15 minute wait so went on there first, then collected our food - a chicken burger, chicken dippers and fries (big portions). The whole place was full and we realised we’d once again had good timing as the Let’s Sing Christmas show with Mickey, Minnie and the gang as well as some really good singers, was about to start - so we enjoyed a leisurely and warm lunch listening to them.

After lunch we noticed that Philharmagic was ready to start so went to see it again, and then had another ride on Star Tours as a walk on.

This was followed by a trips on the Lilly Brown riverboat, Pirates, Phantom Manor and Big Thunder Mountain before heading out of the park to go and freshen up before dinner at NY Manhattan restaurant.

The NY Marvel hotel was extremely busy but we were hoping for cocktails at the Skyline bar however the line was really long as Bleeker Street lounge was closed, and we knew there wouldn’t be time to queue, get served and enjoy our drinks in time, so we decided to have a bottle of wine with our dinner instead and just walked around the hotel getting photos of the artwork etc. There is a very good section of photos of Marvel in the parks - what is planned or already at the Disney parks throughout the world.
We checked into the Manhattan for our reservation 15 mins early, the restaurant is really lovely, we were seated right under the ‘famous’ Chandelier of Asgard and soon had bread, dipping oil and a nice bottle of Rose to hand.
We had the e42 3 course menu, and both started with parma ham served with candied fruits in a chilli flavoured syrup, I enjoyed it - H not so much. Then I had Chicken Saltimbocca and H had Sea Bass, both with roast potatoes. The desserts were the best course - we shared Tiramisu and Rhum Baba - both were delicious.

We could have laid straight down to sleep there and then! so after walking back to Newport Bay we were definitely ready for bed - but not before passing Minnie in the lobby and getting a free hot choc to take to our room, then the dreaded Passenger Locator forms had to be filled in online and we remembered to download and screenshot proof of completion. Travel certainly isn't easy anymore!

Another fab day, you're right the expansion at the studios does need to hurry up and get done. Still you managed twice round on Ratatouille so that was worth! And back in Disneyland park by late morning. The dinner at the new marvel hotel looks pretty good. Aaah, Minnie looks so cute!

Another fantastic day, shame that many rides were closed, but you certainly made the most of what was open 😃

Your evening meal looks delicious as do the pancakes you had in the morning
