Has Anyone Got A Bokashi Bin?

We got a lovely free calendar from our local climate action group, think its going to end up costing me a fortune as its recommending so many eco friendly products. Month 1 is a compost bin - so I looked and saw a Bokashi bin, looks ideal for our 2 person household. Does anyone have one, are they worth it?

No but I did get a shock this week. We have had a big green composting bin in the garden for past couple of years. Filled it with odds and ends over the time. Decided it hasn't work as when you open its just weeds on top, so it was going to get dumped. Complete surprise to find just under the weeds at the top the rest of the bin has turned to compost! No idea when that happened. Going to save us a fortune this spring.

We have two that we rotate round, once full it goes in the garage to ferment, we then fill the next, once that one is fully we drain off the ‘juice’ and the mummified remains the goes in the sub pod wormery to make compost. Clean and then reuse and rotate to start the process again.

You need to layer with bran to help with the fermentation process.

We have two of these, this one in the utility room where we add all the food waste.

This is the one in the garage with all the ‘juice’ fertilizer we have collected ready for the spring
