For one friend I got an engraved wooden cheese board and wine box
For another I arranged for an afternoon tea to be delivered for her & her husband
Another we went on a trip to Norwich & saw a show

Depends what her/his interests are. Whilst an engraved cheeseboard and wine box is a great present for the right person I wouldn't be impressed by it as it just not my thing.

I definitely agree
It had words to the effect how awesome they were etc so really personal to them but it definitely just suited the person I bought it for

I have the same dilemma, have 3 friends all turning 60 and really wanting to get something nice. But for me, I wouldn't thank you for engraved pressies, they go in a cupboard never to be used or seen again until the next clear out.

When I was 60..five years ago! I had some really thoughtful presents...and it all made for an amazing birthday.
Zoo Keeper for the day at Blackpool zoo.
Went to see Rod Stewart on the night of my birthday.
I worked in Boots on perfume at the time and was bought a Pandora charm of a perfume bottle.
A meal at the Panoramic in Liverpool...to name a few.
All bought by different friends and family...they all looked at what I liked and went from there x
