I’ve had varifocal sunglasses and also the ones that get darker.

The ones that get dark are better on holiday in Florida when you are in and out of buildings but they don’t go as dark as normal sunglasses. I got mine from Asda and they weren’t particularly expensive. As I mainly wear them on holiday I didn’t want an expensive pair.

I always have Transitions lenses. I’ve also had a special tint on that helps with night driving. I find them great here but I also don’t find they darken enough when I’m abroad. I’m going to either have to go for varifocal sunglasses or varifocal contacts and ordinary sunglasses.

I have transitions lenses on my spare pair but sometimes use my plain glasses with clip ons for driving as the windscreen has a uv filter which stops the transitions from darkening properly.

I have done the opposite to most and gone for varifocals and normal distance sunglasses. This is because I rarely need to read with them on unless on holiday and then the reading bit was in the wrong place for a sun lounger. 2 years on I’m reconsidering but will stay the same for now. In Florida I tend to use varifocal contact lenses during the day and normal sunglasses.

I have one pair of glasses which have a coating so go dark in the sun. I did check with opticians to make sure the coating was as good as a proper pair of sunglasses and he confirmed It was.

At the moment I only need reading glasses but still got my “free” pair as sunglasses nearly 2 years ago. Guess what they have been out of the case maybe twice, reactolite next time!

I am waiting for a delivery of glasses and sunglasses both varifocal. I was always a contact lens wearer but sind covidi haven't worn them and cancelled my direct debit for monthly ones. I am considering some pairs of daily disposals but I don't want them on a regular basis so not sure I can just buy some when I need them.

I am toying with the idea of varifocal transitions lenses- but am worried that I am going to be walking about inside with dark lenses. How long do they take to change back to normal mode?

I use varifocal reactive glasses and got fed up changing in the car as the lenses do not go dark behind the car screen so next change had varifocal reactive glasses for normal use and leave a pair of varifocal sunglasses in the car for day time driving.
