I have just given my grandson £100 towards a VR headset that he wants for his 18th. We have a friends and family rule that over 18 they just get xmas presents.

There’s no proper answer to this tbh.
It comes down to what you can afford and what you then feel is appropriate.
Maybe speak to her parents for advice?

Personally for a special birthday I would give a bit more than I would normally spend, so probably £100.

I don't think there's a correct answer! You give what you feel you can afford!

My nephew got £100 from my mum but £1000 from his other grandmother. He got £50 from his mums partners mother and £500 from his dads wife’s mother. So I really don’t think there is a set rule. I gave him £50 and wrapped up 18 bars of toblerlone (his favourite chocolate) that went down a treat 😂😂😂😂

I would give what you can afford. My daughter is 18 in 2 weeks and I’ve spent £100 on her.

Do what you can afford and also if you have other grandchildren to come you need to think if you can give them the same. So my parents always give the same to my eldest nephew down to my youngest daughter but my in laws probably don’t do this with their grandkids? X
