I sent them a message on Messenger so have it in writing on there. I have contacted Alamo quite a bit that way and they have confirmed I would have to pay an additional driver fee if I want my husband to drive. Florida don’t include them as standard. Apparently some states offer free spouse additional driver on their policy but not Florida. I wonder if you have bought a policy where additional drivers were included for free. I know Alamo direct we’re offering this not long ago. But Netflights didn’t seem to have that same offer on.

Car hire with Autoeurope (April, pick up in Miami)
This text in in the rental policies that came with the check in confirmation email.
“ Renter’s spouse or domestic partner who meet the same age and driver’s license requirements of the renter are authorized drivers at no additional charge. Any additional authorized drivers must appear at time of rental and meet age and driver’s license requirements. An additional charge of $10 per day for each additional authorized driver will be added to the cost of the rental, unless other contractual conditions apply.

A spouse or domestic partner is the only permitted additional driver on a rental secured with a debit card”

To double check i’ve reached out to Alamo on twitter and they confirmed
“ Hello again, Mr. B. Yes, renter’s spouse or domestic partner who meet the same age and driver’s license requirements of the renter are authorized drivers at no additional charge. Please let us know if we can be of additional assistance. Thanks! -Stacy”

So pretty clear.
However the part about the free spouse was not included in previous check in emails. Must be something recent.

It’s so frustrating, how can everyone at Alamo be giving out such different information.

This was my response:

Hi, That's a great question. Any additional driver (including a spouse or domestic partner) will pay a daily fee; this fee will vary and averages $12 a day. At your Orlando locations, this fee will be $10.00 per day. Your additional driver will need to appear at the rental counter with you to provide the branch with a valid drivers license. I hope that this has been helpful. If you have any additional questions in the meantime, please feel free to message our team. We hope to see you soon! - DA

Hi
A lot of confusion with Alamo just now not only about what appears to be a change in policy regarding authorised drivers. This is why I’ve urged caution. I would be happy to accept that my spouse was automatically authorised given that it’s included in my T&C’s of my confirmation email and I have 2 e-mails from Alamo.com customer services confirming this. If some people don’t have this included in their email I would not be advising that a spouse/ DP was authorised unless it’s included in the rental agreement printed at the gate.
As an aside the T&C’s on the web site are not always correct/ enforced. In all my previous rentals with Alamo (Brits) my DW is ever with me when I collect the car but having completed OLCI she is always included as an additional driver in the rental agreement. But that’s another thread😀

I’m not sure this is really new info as it seems to have been in place for a while. Two years ago picking up a car at Canaveral I commented it was a pity I wasn’t covered as I fancied driving a convertible and the woman at the desk told me as I was a spouse I was automatically covered so enjoy (and didn’t ask to see my licence) so May have been an undocumented benefit for a while.

Hi
What is new is that it is written down in the rental policy. We’re all different but I would not be happy taking the verbal assurance from a rental clerk that it was ok. Case in point is with Hertz when the rental agents say that the spouse/DP is authorise without being included in the rental agreement but the agreement clearly states that additional drivers including spouse must be on the agreement. Hopefully this can verified soon by some kind Dibber renting from Alamo who has received the new email format.
