Mobile Alcatraz day or night?

Just wondering what peoples thoughts on the Alcatraz tours were, is it best to do day or night? We are 2 adults, 2 teens, 13 and 16

Night time for us always, something about looking across the bay in the dark... more atmosphere as well of a night, get the last boat back as all the workers leave at the same time.

We did Alcatraz on our first morning, I think the first trip was about 8.30am. I knew we’d be awake super early, time for an IHOP and then off to Alcatraz, worked great for us(2A, 2 teens).

I've done it twice during the day. However, a friend of mine did it at night and it sounds like it's a totally different experience altogether. I'd definitely do it at night the next time I go.

First night tour as it has some elements you struggle to get at other times.

Day tours are still good though if that suits better.

We've done them both and we preferred the night tour. The day tour was fantastic too but evening one was so atmospheric - given the choice I would always vote for the night tour.

There are more areas open for the night tour and there are additional interesting talks on various aspects of the prison available during the evening. We went over to the island just before sunset so we arrived in daylight, and it was an amazing sight to watch the sky changing colour. We were halfway through our tour and were taken outside to watch the moon rise. That’s something I’d never seen before! The hospital wing was also open and it’s never available during the daytime tours. The atmosphere was really different during the light and the dark. I’d highly recommend it.
