NYC October help

Hiya guys

getting excited now ... going Oct 26th for 5 days.
2ad 2teens

1)
Assume we should pack some jumpers and thin coat /jacket just in case its cool ? From what ive seen it can also be quite nice tho.

what did you do ?

2) Subway - we've worked out paying out of pocket will be cheaper than a 7 day pass x4 for us, for what we'll use.
The standard metro cards I think you just top up with any $ amount you want. Shall we get 4 card and each top it up or can we buy 2 cards and pass it back to each teen ? (i.e through turnstiles in pairs)

cheers

I went last October on the 22nd for 5 days. To start with I just wore a t-shirt and light jumper/vest and denim shirt under my winter (short) coat. On our second to last day we went on the hop on hop off bus and were sat on the top deck, it was freezing and we were huddled up under a scarf as the weather had turned!

We went in mid October a couple of years ago and it was scorching, I had packed autumn type clothes for that part of the trip but had to wear some of our Orlando clothes because it was so warm. It got cooler at night so we wore cardi’s etc but didn’t need the light jackets we had packed.

We didn’t use the subway so can’t help with that question, sorry.

Have a great time

we took the grandaughter twice in Oct half term.
The first time it was dry but chilly, definitely needed hats & hoodies.
The second time, all flights got grounded on our last day,as the snow came down thick & fast, don’t think this was usual though,at that time of year.
I think we took off about 7 hours late,as they began to let the flights in & out,so definitely pack for cooler weather,as it can change by the day.
Love NY

Definitely pack for all weathers. We went last year and had quite cool but sunny weather, then rain. A storm came in on our day trip to Statue of Liberty. The river levels rose so much that we were wading on and off the ferries. Pack extra shoes and socks! Thanks god we did, our shoes took days to dry out.

I think we bought the subway cards, put money on and split between us - pay by journey so didn't need a card each.

You can pass 4 people through on one subway card so you just add whatever you need to the card and then pass the card back to each person, once 4 people have gone through it won't allow another swipe (we were a family of 5 so this was a pain having to have the 2 cards).

A weeks subway pass is much cheaper than payg. You only need to do 12 journeys to cover it. We found this out a few days in, should have done it on day one.
