Chinook helicopters

2 have just been flying around and above Chelmsford - any idea why and where they would be going ?

I wondered if they would be stationed in Colchester - there’s a large garrison there.

We're not far from RAF Odiham and they are over our village often, but much more so last couple of days, lots of very low flights. I imagine they are training, maybe in case needed to transport stuff/people for covid response? Military personnel are coordinating all the field hospitals and ppe supplies.

I work in Basildon (when we aren't WFH) and see them over there occasionally, I always presumed they were on their way to Colchester, or maybe Wattisham.

We have the odd one over home too, no idea where they could be going here (we're in Kent and they are heading south-east)

We’re near Manchester and there’s lots of military aircraft activity at the moment. I think it’s to do with nhs supplies (according to our local paper).

Also, the larger aircraft are apparently taking advantage of the quieter skies and airports to carry out exercises

We are north Manchester and there been quite a few. I read they are bringing NHS supplies in.
To be fair we actually see a few as we are on the edge of the moors and they seem to come over fairly regularly anyway!

Yep, heard and saw them - flew around at least 3 times.

Suggestions on the local Facebook group (which is never knowingly a source of accurate or balanced information! ) were that they were transporting supplies/patients. According to one person, one of them landed at the Police HQ, whilst another person saw them land at Broomfield Hospital - so who knows 🤷

Either way, they were loud and low!
