Portable scooter
Hi I am looking to book a portable ecv. We will be mainly relying on Disney buses but would be nice to have option of a taxi coming back at night. Does anyone have advice or experience of how they are to handle and disassemble and assemble or should I get the regular one as a first time user? Many thanks

They come in 4 or 5 parts. The seat lifts off, the back end wheels with the motor disconnects from the front. The battery will also lift off. It takes around 60 seconds to dismantle once you know what to do.
If you get the small scooters you will probably find that you can put them into empty boots/trunks without dismantling them. You will need two of you to lift it in/out though. We tend to pick our hire car (small SUV) based on one with a flat boot so it's easier to get a scooter in and out. I need to use a scooter in the parks now as I have COPD. Disney transport is great with the scooter, although there is a maximum of 2 scooters on a bus. However at park closing time it is chaos, so we either stay in the parks and go shopping/people watching to wait until the busses are quieter. Or take the car, or leave before park closing.

Thanks crux for reply , good to know that the whole thing may not need to be dismantled. The park closing was my concern too, will get practice in so can place in taxi.

I hired a 'regular' scooter in Orlando last year and was fortunate in that my hotel arranged transport for me to and from Disney anytime I wanted. They called up a special taxi with a ramp that allowed the scooter to be loaded in very easily. I am able to walk a bit so I took the front seat although I could have remained on the scooter. The driver didn't have to fold the rear seats so there was plenty of room for three or four passengers.
These 'special' taxis are quite common and form part of the Mears fleet that sit outside the Disney theme parks waiting for hire. The drivers would always call one up if one wasn't in the line. Once you've used them, they'll give you their card so you can call them for future use! |
