Considering Buying dvc but only thinking of going every 2nd of 3rd year

I'd really love a DVC but wouldn't use it every year maybe every 2nd or 3rd. In your opinion is it still worth doing. I'm only looking at ssr or okw resorts. There are 5 of us so would need enough points for a 2 bed villa.
Any advice or thoughts please. (Also we've already booked a package holiday for next August so wouldn't be using it next year)
Thanks Angie

As you can borrow and you can bank. You can double or treble the points you use and have a superb holiday. Do remember though that there are annual dues to be found every year and these are based on the resort you buy into and the number of points you buy.

Angie personally I wouldn't buy if you were planning more 3 years than 2 as I don't see it as financially worthwhile. Also I wouldn't buy OKW, unless it was one of the extended contracts, OKW contracts end in 2042 but SSR is 2054, so in theory an extra 12 years of holidays.
On a 2 year plan, for 2 weeks at Dream season, SSR standard, you are looking at approx. 220 points but this is the frightening bit :
Approx £28k Direct
Approx £15k Resale
& in both instances annual dues of £1k.
If you are happy to stay offsite in somewhere like Staybridge suites, you can get a lot of holidays for £28k!
Also worth noting that you still have to find the money for flights & passes etc.
We love our DVC but personally I wouldn't buy now due to the shocking FX rate.

We usually go every 18 months and it's worked great for us over the last 17 years. We have also waited and saved up 3 years of points and had a super holiday with all the family. Got the biggest room in Boardwalk I think. Was great. We find the points system very flexible.

We go every two or three years. But the points for a 2 Bed for two weeks is high. You'd only need to buy half of them, as you can bank.

Compare the cost with a cash booking as DVC don't get free dining and when everyone around you is eating for free that's a little frustrating. It's also expensive if you want to eat in the same way (ADRs and QS all the time)

We have enough points for 10 -14 nights in a studio (depends on season) and if we Bank we can stretch to a one bed. We bought in at a good exchange rate but we still have to find the annual dues every year and currently the exchange rate is making them expensive

This is the big issue for me, the free dining, you can stay in OKW ( which we love ) or SSR and have free DDP for a very good price, it really makes DVC fairly poor ( i know people will say about staying at some really nice accom blah blah blah, ultimately for us, the free DDP kills DVC, though last trip we ate off-site and had some very nice food, at some places we ate for the price of the on-site tip

Add to the discussion the exchange rate, i honestly cannot see many from the UK buying in at the moment

True if that is where you want to stay and you want DDP then I would question buying into DVC now. If you want to stay in other of the DVC resorts the majority of the time such as Epcot area or Monorail loop and don't want DDP then that is different.

Personally I don't want DDP I like to have the odd meal but happy to do some self catering too.

Also if only going every 3 years then you should look at the financials very carefully as dues plus capital outlay and exchange rate are unlikely to make financial sense.

Mmm. I got 160 SSR points with all 2016 banked, 2017 onwards for £10500 incl. Immediately rented the 2016 banked points, bringing my buy in down to £8500. I priced up a 2 bed at OKW for 2018 and it had gone up £2000 compared to 2016. Next year I'm having 10 nights in a 1 bed at AKL. With Disney it's about 7k including dining. The DVC and buying some food still works out significantly cheaper. After 3 trips I'm at break even level then it's dues cost only. Buying direct from Disney though at 175 a point though is a different story and I couldn't recommend.
