waiting for diagnosis
My son is currently on the list to be officially diagnosed with ASD and ADHD. He has been on the list since last December and I am unsure how long it will take to get an official diagnosis.
What can we do in regards to immigration at mco if he is not officially diagnosed? He is quite unpredictable and sometime can handle waiting and other times has full on meltdowns so I am preparing myself for the worst after a 9 hour flight. |

I know every areas is different but here it takes about 12mths from being accepted by mats to diagnosis. As far as help at mco if you email the airport they will help you regardless of diagnosis. We used the special needs immigration entrance and there are porters (skycaps) who will help you with luggage from the plane to your transport if you need them. Try not to worry there is lots of support out there if you need it weather you have a diagnosis or not (no one has ever asked me to prove my sons asd).

When we went in 2012 and my son was two we hadn't started the diagnosis process but we knew he was autistic. We didn't actually worry about the airpot as he wasn't able to express distress so loudly then. It's a different story now of course! But we got the DAS at Disney just by explaining our situation. They can't ask you to 'prove' it there so to speak. Over here you have to have doctors letters etc.
For this trip I have told Virgin Special Assistance, they couldn't help us before as he wasn't diagnosed, I'm also going to email the airport. Gatwick have also sent us a leyland for our son to wear which is meant to help at the airport this end.

We found the Airlines very helpful (have used Virgin & TC) but haven't found the staff at MCO very good ie telling my son to do things after i told them he is Autistic and non verbal and wont understand and last time swabbing his hands without speaking to me first whilst hes sat in his disabled chair.

I feel your pain, our son was almost 9 when he finally got diagnosed!
Do you have any letters regarding his referral? Can the GP write a letter? Virgin were really good when we flew with them, they didn't ask to see any letters. Edited at 08:52 PM. |
