Looks a bit chunky to me, will wait to see it "for real" before I make a judgement though.

You can swap the middle part (the "puck" as people seem to be calling it) which contains the RFID chip and battery into another holder - like a keyring, lanyard, or special decorated strap.

Also, in time I'd guess that Disney might sell other things to fit into the holes of the strap. So, when you come home, you'd be able to pull out the puck and replace it with a watch, for example.

Admittedly, Disney could've just sold RFID-enabled lanyards and keyrings without the puck.

Does anybody know how 'soon' the new wristbands will be rolled out? I shall be arriving on 30th November so may not be soon enough for us I guess.
Apparently, the new bands will be issued to WDW annual pass holders in December and from January 2017 resort guests will start to receive them. I guess they'll start being sold in the stores soon after that.

I really don't get why Disney are introducing these. Ever since I spotted these last week I've been thinking they really missed the point of revising the magic band.

They've made it with a removable 'Puck' but so what.
Its made the magic band fatter, more bulky.
It still doesn't have a replaceable battery so hasn't addressed the environmental issues of the disposable bands.
Its coloured and visible , so even though you can swap it into other accessories, your still stuck to just one colour. I would have thought the most likely reason people would want to swap it would be to have different colour bands/accessories to 'co-ordinate'.
I doubt there's any cost reduction for Disney, I suspect the puck and band will cost more to manufacture since the 2 separate elements now need screwing together.
Plus, surely the pucks become a choking hazard.

I just don't get it

Not sure I like the idea of a removal puck either! Too easy to lose if it's easy to get out?
Wonder if it'll still be waterproof?
Like others have said - no improvement to Magic Band, just a way to possibly make more money 😳

Does anyone know if the old ones will continue to work?

We all have personalised bands and the Kids will not be amused changing them, nor will I at loosing my Starwars one.

I can't see why not as it's the same technology. Thousands of people will have bought bands and there would be uproar if they suddenly disabled them somehow.

Yes, the old ones will continue to work indefinitely (subject to the battery life exceptions)

The puck is completely sealed, so still waterproof.
