We went with Papillon helicopters, yes the one that crashed, and had a fantastic day. Collected from hotel, small plane with large windows to canyon then helicopter trip over canyon followed by boat trip in river then helicopter to other areas where we had a couple of hours to explore before flight back.
The whole experience was 'awesome' and I loved it. We were at the sky bridge but did not go on it due to the queue and the fact that everything there was fantastic.

Do you need to book tickets for the west rim/skywalk in advance or can we buy these on the day? do you get 'time' to do the skywalk?

Thanks again for all the great advice

We're just doing the West Rim as limited on time. Not doing helicopter as I have an intense fear (not helped by recent crash) and will be booking with Grand Adventures. Long day but that doesn't scare me.

We loved our day at the West Rim, yes the set up Indian village is a bit cheesy but the whole day was amazing and we didn't go near a helicopter. The rock formation is just stunning and we did the Skywalk - absolutely terrifying and exhilarating at the same time. I would definitely recommend it if you can fit it in to your trip. We stopped at the Hoover Dam on the way back.

We pre-booked our tickets and printed them from home so when we arrived we could just park and head to the bus stop. The skywalk is a quick process. You can't take your own camera/phone or bag out there with you - there are lockers you have to put them in. There are then 2 queues - one for those who just wish to walk on the skywalk and one for those who want to have official photos taken. You can buy the package of photos for around $68 or a single photo for around $17. We weren't hugely impressed by our official photos but bought one for the memory. The skywalk is the second stop on the bus tour, the first is the Hualapai Village and the 3rd is a different view point. Lunch was included with our ticket price and you could have it at any of the stops with each offering a different kind of food. We opted to eat at the last stop where we had chicken, mash, corn on the cob, salad and a cookie with a bottle of water. We were quite impressed with it even though it was served kind of school dinner style.

The South rim blew us away... for me it was worth the days out to visit and take it all in... would visit there again in a heart beat... the West Rim..? probably not...
