We stayed at the Best Western Plus in Lone Pine. It was a nice place, with good views of the mountains, a pool and a nice buffet breakfast. There are also 1 or 2 laundry rooms on site.

Ok, been really busy at work, but so far have booked following.
19th July Oakland to Modesto - Not to far after long flight 20th July Modesto to Bishop via Tioga Pass ( 276 miles split between two of us) - Google says approximately 6 hours are we being too ambitious? Thought process is that we will be up at the crack of dawn (time difference etc) so be on out way by 7 or 8 am, which gives us the whole day to get to Bishop. Found a lovely hotel, Creekside Inn, has anyone ever stayed there? 21st July Bishop to Pahrump via death valley, again 223 miles split between 2 of us and the whole day to do it in. 22nd LV for a couple of days so no driving except around town. Thoughts so far? |

We stayed here last year, I have recommended it to other Dibbers. I would not stay anywhere else along the 395. This was one of our favorite hotels on our trip great location, bars and food places in the town. Pool and hot tub open until 10pm breakfast was free and lots of it.

I wouldn't stay overnight in Pahrump. If you want to stay overnight I would do it more somewhere like Paramount Springs. Otherwise just head straight into Las Vegas as by the time you reach Parhump there isn't much else to go and see and you aren't that far from Vegas.
I assume you will go into Death Valley at Olancha. You can do the semi ghost town at Darwin coming in that way and if you leave Bishop reasonable early (say 9am) you can do all of the sights and get into Vegas in the early to mid evening. |

We only booked Pahrump as we didn't think we should arrive in LV on a Sat night, but perhaps we should. Any reason to avoid Pahrump?

Nothing really there and it's on the edge of death valley. I'd either stay in death valley floor or go straight through.

As above it's just a soulless town with nothing there.
I'd push on to Vegas but if staying another night in Death Valley I've always fancied staying at Furnace Creek (highest temperature ever recorded). |
