East Coast Beaches?

For our last 4 visits we've left Orlando behind for the day and headed towards Cocoa beach, inevitably we do the same thing, park at South 1st street, lunch at Coconuts on the Beach followed by an afternoon on the beach itself.
Whilst it's not the worst way to spend the day, I was wondering if anyone had further suggestions for a beach day on the East coast, it would be good to try something new/different!

We spent 10 days or so in a house at Port St Lucie last year. Two places we went to were:

Dubois Park - has a natural "lazy river" that you can just float down in >>> tripadvisor/Attrac...r_Florida.html

Jensen Beach - a more traditional beach, not dissimilar to Cocoa Beach, other than being less developed immediately around it >>> tripadvisor/Attrac...h_Florida.html

If you went to Jensen Beach, or another beach in the area, you could also visit the lovely Florida Oceanographic Society >>> floridaocean/

We are staying at New Smyrna Beach, south of Daytona, North of Cocoa. It looks great, really nice surfing, arty, hipster type town but has a great beach, plenty of restaurants, bars, etc. visitnsbfl/ and a main street called Flagler Avenue which leads down to the beach (drive on beach)
Some places to eat: Yellow Dogs, Flagler Tavern, Outriggers, Breakers.

We are also going to drive to Merritt Island and drive the wildlife reserve trail whilst over there, as well as doing KSC.
