Flight Prices To West Coast
Hi we are planning a West Coast trip September/October. Hoping to fly into San Francisco and out of LA. This is all new to us and we are out of our comfort zone! What should we expect to pay? Looking at economy and PE and will consider all airlines. Thank you.

End of August to End of October are usually shoulder season (mid season) so you should start to get fares just under the £500 mark if not lower for Economy.

I did the opposite of your itinerary (into LAX, out SFO) last year for end August/start September. I paid £1,800 for 2 adults and 2 children in economy. It was slightly cheaper with other airlines but with older aeroplanes.

I would agree around the £500p.p. for economy, double that for PE. BA are always worth a look, check the flight + car options, we had flights with a large SUV which worked out at around £70 more than just flights, car from Avis and fully insured.
If flying into SF don't bother with a car for the days you are there, pick it up the day you leave, the BA site allows you to book cars for part of your trip. SF is very easy to get around on public transport, or Uber if you prefer and parking is horrendous and expensive, it was $70 a night at our hotel! |

Those prices all seem pretty cheap relative to what I'm looking at for July into August this Summer.
Best I could find was BA from Gatwick direct to Oakland in PE, for about £950pp, but those seem to have gone now. Economy seats to any of SFO, LAX or OAK were c£700 last I looked. |

Thank you for the feedback. We are used to booking flights to Florida and the East Coast but clueless as to what is a decent price for the West Coast! I will be spending a lot of time on the planning forum! Good to hear SF is doable without the car especially with the parking charges!

I was pricing similar (either return LAX or LAX out and SEA inbound) in September and it was just over £400 return with Norwegian. PE was about 1k, although considerably cheaper on the inbound if you wanted to only upgrade one part of the journey.
