Unfair Selco charges

I went to Selco builders merchants this morning and had 4 worktops cut. The chap cutting them said I was allowed 2 cuts free and then 50p for each additional cut. I said that I didn't want more than 2 cuts on each worktop but he said that it didn't matter because regardless of how many worktops I had I was only allowed 2 cuts in total. I asked that if I just brought one worktop in at a time could I have two free cuts and he confirmed I could.

The chap was very helpful/friendly and was only following Selco's policy, but it still cost me £1 plus vat so that's £1.20 I will never get back.

I appreciate this might not seem important to some people but I could have bought a 4 pack of chunky kitkats with the £1.20.

I'm sorry to read that you've had such a bad morning. What about we set up a crowdfunder to see what the Dibbers can do to support you at this difficult time? Possibly raise enough to get you a few bars of chunky kitkats and a Costa?

Agree with you there. It seems unfair as you are purchasing more goods with them and now out of pocket.
I definitely would have been having a word with the manager or putting the goods back (unless this was the cheapest/only place you could get what you needed)

Beth, I appreciate your empathy and I would appreciate crowdfunding for the chunky kitkats but I have had a couple of costas recently and I didn't enjoy either of them and would rather my home made costa filter coffees at a fraction of the cost.

Thanks again for the crowdfunding.

Unfortunately there isn't anywhere locally that cuts them and then delivers them.

It's a shame because my day was going quite well up until this issue and now I feel I've had a setback.

MH. Why not buy one? You can get a reasonable sliding mitre saw for circa £600 but you do need 2 side tables as well so for a Grand you could cut them yourself.

I just checked the receipt and in fact they haven't charged me the £1 plus vat. I had 6 cuts in total so your son is right the first 4 cuts must be free hence why the chap cutting it said I had to pay for 2 cuts, maybe the lady at the customer servce area felt sorry for me (I gave her the receipt the wood cutting guy gave me).

I am a generous chap but it has never occurred to me that the wood cutters get a tip. I can now buy a 4 pack chunky kitkats with the £1.20 I saved, although it is daft that 4 cuts are free if I bring one worktop to be cut, but if I bring 4 then still only 4 cuts are free and not 16?
