However, some of the issues may be that he’s a little old for the real socialisation to have started.

When puppies get to 11-12 weeks they lose their pup fearlessness and get nervous about things. If they had seen those places from arms at 8 weeks, then they feel ok about them.

We got our lad at 7 weeks and 1 day, so too early. However he was one of 13 and his mummy couldn’t feed the bigger ones any more so the breeder asked if we wanted to collect him as we knew what we were doing and had been weaned for some time. They thought he would be better with one to one support, well 5 to one support really.

We have horses so had to get him
used to them so I carried him around to meet them all and he was completely fearless then, but new situations a few weeks later he was quite anxious really.

It’s such a weird time with Covid and everything, but I can really recommend puppy classes or a good dog trainer. The one we used is in Cheshire but does a zoom call for new puppies which is apparently excellent.

But he’ll definitely figure life out, I prefer a simple lead and collar and lots of treats and praise ❤️
Yes, i have a lot of neighbours with dogs and we were talking about his hard it is for pup socialisation at the moment.

He was a litter of 3 and the breeder owns his parents and she also has a poodle who’d just had a huge litter of 11 and when we went to see him all the dogs, our puppy, his parents and the poodles were there living in the breeders home so he’s well used to other dogs he got in great with them, all the dogs were lovely, very social and friendly. He was never isolated or left in a crate or anything like that, he came from a lovely home and it shows as he’s such a lovely pup. He was fearful of my neighbours big old soppy dog but I think that was a size thing, DH held him for that as we bumped into them on a walk.

I’ll have a look into puppy classes - thank you. I had thought about them but just assumed they weren’t on at the mo. I’ll chat to my vets though and see if they have anything around at the min.

Thanks guys!

Tilly would refuse to walk as a puppy. We would walk her on the lead at the front of the house with lots of encouragement. (Never done treats) we literally live 2 mins from menses park so we would carry her to the park and then let her walk in the park, then carry her back.
It was slow progress building up her walks but she could walk and walk for hours (slowed down now she is 11/12) Tilly is half Maltese & half Lhasa apso

Who is chastising the puppy? Well anyone for that matter. Have there been posts deleted?

Getting a new puppy is so so hard and it’s completely normal to worry. I still text my DH to ass ask how the dog is when he gets in...

I’m confused by the chastised comment, certainly not us, our baby has never been told off by us his life. He’s pampered. Think DH prefers him to the kids! 🤣
I was just after a bit of advise on how to get him confident with walking. We live in a beautiful part of the world with gorgeous countryside, amazing doggy community and in a lovely village. He will live a long and very well loved life here. He loves the garden so I’m confident he will love toddling round our village and fields. He’s certainly never been chastised. Maybe posts have been deleted Mitch? 🤔

its totally normal for them to be reluctant walkers at first regardless of how they did before. The area is unfamiliar with lots of new sights & smells and that can be scary but one day he'll get the hang of it you just keep trying lots of coaxing and encouraging - treats can help but you don't want to make them an expectation.
You could try picking a set route which will keep it familiar and help build his confidence. Another thing you could try is carry him for a little bit then put him down to try walking rather than expect him to walk straight away to break the cycle of if I refuse to move they will carry me.#

congrats on your new addition He is absolutely gorgeous
