I guess it won’t be a great benefit if we can just leave our luggage at bell services at POFQ and just catch the Tragical Express to the airport later in the afternoon? Just trying to work out if it would be worth it time wise rather than doing the above.

In April we drop off our RV late morning but with DW in a wheelchair and four pieces of checked luggage with us we would have had to go directly to the airport and wait for hours until our early evening flight; was not looking forward to that! Then I just remembered the bag drop option. Now, after dropping off the RV we can jump on a bus to the Florida Mall, have a leisurely lunch and a cocktail or two, and later catch a bus to the airport. Job done!
Pity it's no longer free for PE passengers as it was many years ago but $20 is nowt to what it would have cost for an appropriate taxi/shuttle from the rental location.

If you are staying onsite and using the Magical express, then I agree, there is no advantage at all in using Disney Springs checkin, because, more often than not, you won't have a car, so would have to get a taxi to DS as you can't take luggage onto Disney transport.

The main benefit is for people who are NOT staying on site, as they normally have to be out of hotels/Villas by 10-11am. Dragging luggage with you and leaving in in cars all day is not ideal, so thats where DS has the advantage.
And remember, if you have been to DS and checked is in the morning, you only need to use the airport as a bag drop, as you already have your boarding cards from DS.

I would still aim for the 3 hours + before the flight, as TSA can be VERY unpredictable.

Although checking in at DS sounds good theres no advantage to the likes of us who are not staying on site and no car as it would mean an uber from hotel I-drive to DS and uber back to hotel, then throw in $10 pp(5 of us)

Indeed - only of benefit to Off site with a car.

We are staying on site but have a car and love using Disney springs, you feel free when you get rid of those cases and then normally head off to Sea World or another park for the last time. It was closed just after the hurricane when we flew home last time and we really missed it - well worth the money to us

We used the drop off this weekend as it made life a lot easier (carrying buggy, child and car seat through the terminal was enough).

Just to reiterate other posters - make sure that you get there in plenty of time for security - it was over 95 minutes to get through security on Friday and then you need to get the monorail and find the gate. We only just made the plane and we arrived at the airport 3 hours before our flight.
