Mobile 15 seater van

Hi all, I am going to be travelling to Florida with 9 people later this year and we are looking at prices for vehicles.
The cheapest and best solution we can find is to hire a 15 seater van.

But, I got my uk driving license in around 2006 but I am
Not sure if I am allowed to drive the van in Orlando.

Does anybody have any experience of whether I can drive this in Orlando or not?

My dad has the older license as he passed in around 1980 so can drive vans in the uk.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hi. You can drive the Minibus in Florida on your licence even without having a D1.
I am advised only Sixt ask for a D1 qualification.

Edit. Just checked and this is who has it and who hasn't.

If you passed your test before 1st January 1997, you'll automatically have category D1 on your licence

So I am ok as I passed in 1972!

Hi tom,

So does that mean that I can drive the 15 seater as long as I do not book with Sixt?

If so, that is brilliant and means we can split the driving.

Thanks again tom

As far as I know but wait for those who hire often to pop on.

I’m relying on my memory for this so don’t want to give duff info.

Unlike Tom, I got my licence many years after 1997 so I don't have D1 on my licence either . Theres no problem driving a 15 seater through Alamo with your licence. Just Sixt who say you need to have D1.

Thanks Andy. I guess I will be booking through Alamo and we will then be able to share the driving

Thank you so much for all of your help
