Celebrating Retirement Tour October 2019 - Day 9 Fri 11 Oct - Lone Pine

We were very sad to be leaving Palm Springs today and both said we would definitely be back on our next trip.

Decided to go back to Ruby's Diner for breakfast as we enjoyed it so much yesterday and today was just as delicious. Brian had corned beef hash combo and I had Cinammon whirl French toast combo.

Had a last wander round the shops and bought a few gifts before heading back to Coyote Inn to say our goodbyes. We have really enjoyed our time here and will definitely stay here again 👍

Set off for the long drive to Lone Pine. We decided on a stop off at Elmer's Bottle Tree Ranch to break up the journey and to stretch our legs. Sadly the owner Elmer passed away in June but the family have recently re-opened the Ranch to visitors in his memory. Such a quirky place and it is situated directly on Route 66 so Brian was pleased that he had chance to drive on part of the route.

Unfortunately shortly after leaving here we were stuck in a 6 mile traffic jam for about 1 1/2 hours 😔 We later found out that it could have been a knock on effect from the fires in the LA area

Still a long way to go, but we decided to still detour slightly to drive through Red Rock Canyon State Park, stunning scenery and very very long straight roads.

Eventually arrived at Comfort Inn Lone Pine after being on the road for 6 hours. First impressions... Hmm, we shall see . Yapping dog in the next room and when we went out to try to find something to eat there was absolutely nowhere that we fancied and we and ended up in McDonald's with all the local teenagers. Definitely out in the sticks here, like going back in time 100 years. There were even 5 or 6 horses in the middle of the main street outside a bar while their owners were having a drink. It was only short of a couple of banjos playing. We were a bit uneasy about the whole place if I'm honest, maybe it will look better in the daylight 🤣🤣
