Our school has stopped the practice of doing the GCSE’s early too. They do them over three years now instead.

My daughter's school still do two GCSEs a year early. English literature and R.E. I have mixed feelings about it. I think she might have got a higher grade in her English literature (she got a 5) had she had an extra year. Her English tutor said she thought it was wrong that she was sitting it early as it had just started to click. She did very well in R.E. though and it does mean she hasn't fewer subjects to concentrate only this year.

We have a tutor for English and maths and both of them liaise with school. Maths is actually one of my daughters stronger subjects but we are not happy with the school teacher.

Of all subjects, I think maths is the most useful subject to get a tutor or even have a go at it yourself as I did. Our 2 are through it now but my son was threatened with lower paper so I sat down and did mock exams with him to see where he was struggling. Those mock papers were so useful and highlighted poor exam technique. After relatively little effort from me he ended up getting an A. I did the same with my daughter who was struggling with maths and she got a pass (just).

Off topic - but we were in a similar position with the vouchers. If you can use them for tutoring great, we couldn't. So we sent DD and one of her friends to PGL for a week's adventure holiday in the summer holidays to use them up. They learned so much from that and had a whale of a time. There are lots of holiday types available. But no maths ones sorry ! If want to use vouchers have to pay by phone so you may wish to double check fidelity are accepted. I would have thought so.

Just had brochure through door for current offer which is buy one get one free or £125 off one if booked by end Jan. We used this offer last year and others it's worth it. Also do family holidays and weekends.

Thank you. The club closed with just a weeks notice because of a disagreement between the club and the church. There was no other provision near enough to us. I have had about £350 credit for 4 years. I had completely forgotten about it until you mentioned vouchers !
Daughter loves PGL. She is going twice this year, once as a young leader with Brownies and for a week in France with school. I will bear the vouchers in mind for a weekend away if I can’t use them with a tutor.

A lot have now that it’s the first result the child gets that the school can use in their reports. When they could keep resitting them, the highest grade counted. So it’s more of a risk to put them in for it before they’re ready.

My son is in Yr 9, and just done his mocks for GCSE French! They take it 2 years early to free up time for other subjects...

And yay to the PGL and vouchers thing! Although I'm not sure mine would be up for it. We've got £650 sitting in our account

When my daughter was at school they did the first part of maths GCSE in year 9 second part in year 10 and third part in year 11. She started really well but went downhill I think she had more enthusiasm in year 9.
