Accepting a Uni Offer

A little bit confused so maybe someone can answer...

Stepson has 3 offers from Universities. 1 unconditional, 2 conditional and an interview at number 4.

On one conditional offer it says The deadline for satisfying the offer conditions is 31 August 2020.
Does that mean he has until that date to accept?

The reason I am confused is because on the UCAS site it says

If you receive your last decision on or before 31 March 2020, your reply date is 5 May 2020 (if your postal address is in the EU).
If you receive your last decision on or before 6 May 2020, your reply date is 4 June 2020 (includes applicants with a postal address outside the EU, but not applicants using Extra to find a place).
If you receive your last decision on or before 4 June 2020, your reply date is 18 June 2020 (except if you're using Extra to find a place).
If you receive your last decision on or before 13 July 2020, your reply date is 20 July 2020 (including Extra choices).

I think he has to accept a firm and an insurance by the date in May (once all his universities have given their decision) and then he has to have met their conditions by the end of August! As he will have had his a-level results by then he hopefully will have met their conditions!

I agree with Mel, although if he accepts the unconditional then I think that's it, he's going. My dd accepted hers as an unconditional and had booked housing well before 1st August.

From what you’ve posted it defo seems May deadline for accepting then if there are conditions it’s up to the 31/08 to prove they’ve been met. The conditions thing on the unconditional offer it’s likely a standard phrase on all offers regardless.

I can confirm from DS experience, if the unconditional is selected then all other offers drop off, no going back!

Please tell him not to rush into accepting anything until April at the earliest. Go to the applicant visit days which most unis offer to get a really good feel for each one before making a final choice as once that decision is made, it's so difficult to reverse. The offers won't be going anywhere, so there's nothing to gain by choosing too early and a lot to lose.

You can’t accept anything until all the Universities on his options have responded. Depending on that date will depend when you make your 2 choices. Remember it’s only an unconditional if it’s first choice.

Not always. Most unis who give unconditionals before A level results say "only if firm" but there are a few cases where it's unconditional even if its your insurance choice.
