So, we’re thinking of going to Majorca for a week in mid October, has anyone got any hints or tips on best places to stay and what to do?
We realise that the weather might be a bit hit and miss but we like the idea of a short plane trip. It’s just me and my husband and we’re not used to booking holidays in Europe so any advice will be very welcome!
we stayed in Palma October 2019... (seems a lifetime away..) seemed a better bet than a 'beach' resort weather dependent etc

anyway weather when we arrived was a monsoon that day & night.. so initially looked a bit grim but it improved over the 4 days @18-20 tshirt weather no more rain...

as already mentioned the city itself is fantastic for wandering about taking in the sites & the cathedral is a must. plenty of pavement cafe for tapas wine/beers etc

we also went to Soller on the old train & tram down to Port de Soller a great day out , again tapas & drinks a plenty

we also hired bikes one morning and cycled right out to the airport and back round the bay on a fantastic dedicated cycle track

for eats try 'sa llum' just sort of behind the cathedral

not sure why someone mentioned benidorm mind ?

We’re trying Sa Coma this October (fingers crossed) which we’ve not been to before but it looks a nice resort. Not one of the larger resorts, but still big enough to have a walk along the seafront and appears to have a nice beach.

We’ve been to Alcudia twice and Ca’n Picafort once before and both are nice resorts with good beaches, shops, bars etc I find Majorca a good, laid back Island to visit which isn’t too crowded. There are lots of tourists but the resorts and beaches are large enough to space out on, particularly out of main season.

There’s also a variety of trips or days out worth considering such as Soller and Palma. We often book a boat trip too, although not sure if this would be possible with social distancing this year

Majorca is my 2nd favourite place to go on holiday. I like palma nova/torrenova. In the middle between the quiet and the madness. We love Palma and portals nous is a lovely marina to spend some time. My DS(16) loved it but DD (25) was bored. Spoiled but theme park holidays and being on the go all the time

We love Puerto Pollensa, lovely big beach, pedestrianised square with lots of restaurants. We are booked to hopefully go in September.

Another vote for Puerto Pollensa. It’s a much nice town than Alcudia, alcudia is lines of hotels, the old town of alcudia is nice to explore and the port of alcudia is nice for a stroll but for us it’s Puerto Pollensa everytime. Have a look at the Miramar hotel, prime position and fantastic views, a lovely hotel.

The only caveat when choosing a location in Mallorca this year will be around what is open. Pollensa / Puerto de Pollensa are very nice, though for all the resort areas outside Palma, mid-October is near the end of the season anyway.

Most hotels outside Palma, and many restaurants etc would close for winter at the end of October, except this year many (especially hotels) are not opening at all. It's hard to know what will and won't be open come mid-October. Palma itself is more reliable on that front, since majority of places are open year-round, though doesn't have much beach in the city and is of course going to have more people around, if that will be an issue for you.

For visits / activities, of course depends what you like to do. Soller is mentioned above, the train from Palma to Soller is nice. The Serra de Tramuntana mountains on the west/north-west coast are beautiful, great area for a scenic drive. There are caves to the east, and any number of beautiful calas (beach coves) all over the island.

I try to go to Port de Soller every year (more than once if possible!). It’s just a very special place.
I love Palma too - a split stay between the 2 is perfect .
