Singapore has definitely gotten expensive over the years, and at least part of that is down to the changes in exchange rate.

I lived in England for the better part of a decade, and when I first went there (mid 2000s) I found things there to be very expensive compared to Singapore, especially as the exchange rate then was £1 to S$3. A decade later I came back to live in Singapore. By then the exchange rate was something like £1 to S$1.8, and prices had also gone up in Singapore dollars, so I found things in Singapore to be very expensive!

But again it also depends on what sort of stuff you buy here and what you're after. For example a cup of coffee from the local coffee shop might be $1 - but if you go around the corner to Starbucks, you're looking at a cup of coffee for around $7. Admittedly it's a different type of coffee though!

We stayed in Singapore for a couple of days prior to getting on a cruise there earlier this year, and absolutely loved it.

Gardens by the Bay is a must, and definitely stay for the lights show there in the evening when they light up the trees, it is magical.

I would happily go back to Singapore again.

We stopped at Hong Kong at the end of the cruise for a couple of days, and didn't enjoy it nearly as much as Singapore.

Hi,

Just flying back to Heathrow now so will compile notes / pictures etc.

Will be good to compare our travellers view vs. A locals perspective on things.

Overall we had a brilliant trip and glad of the week rather than a stopover.

Full on detailed report to follow later.

We are going to Singapore for a week at half term. We have booked universal tickets, sightseeing bus & a small group china town tour.
Looking forward to reading the trip review.
