Mobile Miami and Keys ideas

Hi guys, we are doing 2 nights at universal hotel then 7 nights in a villa. Not doing Disney this time so planning on doing trips to coast etc.
Then I want to do 6 nights heading down to Miami and the Keys area.
Any ideas how to split this ie stay a few nights miami and a few down the keys.
What are the must see /do/ visit attractions for this area as we have never ventured this way before. Thanks for your help.

We are doing Miami and the Keys next year too! Doing 3 nights in Naples(love it here), 1 night Key Largo, 3 nights Key West, 2 nights Marathon and 3 nights Miami. Accommodation in the Keys is very pricey, booked refundable prices on Booking.com in case the prices come down. We’re going to do a dolphin spotting trip in Key West, snorkelling in Marathon and maybe Key Largo. I’ve read a few blogs for Keys road trips(just googled them) for ideas, still a work in progress. Really quite excited about it!

We did 3 nights in Key West a couple of years ago and loved it - we had planned to drive up from Key West and visit the other islands but found so much to do we didn't move the car at all. We did a hop on hop off bus (old town trolley tour), which was valid for 2 days. Glass bottom boat (which was ok but not brilliant), boat trip to snorkel on the barrier reef (which was absolutely amazing), visited the aquarium and ship wreck museum, the Eco Discovery Center (very good, free and brilliant aircon), in the evening we watched the sunset from Mallory square and watched the 'Cat Man Show' (amazing if it is still on). We loved Key West, found evenings a vibrant party atmosphere, didn't see anything shocking or sleezy = but we were back in our accommodation before midnight

We have stayed in hawks key resort, the islander, and done a couple of rental condos. Going soon and have rented again on key colony beach.
Also loved the turtle hospital and a visit to Robbies marina is a must.
We like to visit key west but prefer to stay islamorada and marathon,

I have no idea what that is, but you've got me intrigued so I'm off to Google. ...

Is there much to do in the evenings in islamorada and marathon, like restaurants and quieter bars?

Family trip or adults only? We did 4 nights in the Key West and 4 nights in Miami last month.

Key West was great, but there was just the two of us, so we were happy doing a bit of bar hopping and enjoying the sun.

Miami was nice to see, but it wouldn’t rush back, we’ll maybe try Fort Lauderdale instead if we do this trip again.

We are 2 adults and kids are 18 and 16, so can't do too much bar hopping alas.
