A relaxed military style trip. May 2022. Travel day part 2.

Tuesday 10th May.

Index

Woke up at 6 but dozed for another hour.
The room was hot but sound proof, we had a decent nights sleep there.
Discovered we could see the planes from our window.

Finally started getting excited about the holiday.
We fished our snacks and watched the planes for a while.
Flight didn’t leave until 1.30 pm so it was nice we didn’t need alarms.
Checked out, we did leave earlier than usual because of all the airport horror stories.
Had a better view of the planes outside.

Took the bus, again easy and didn’t have to worry where our stop was.
Walked to Terminal 3, the BA check in desk didn’t look busy.
Security line was short as well although we always seem to get behind the slowest person/family.
Had a look in duty free, it’s a large shopping area but didn't buy anything. Only 2 bars in here, both had queues. We looked at both menus and chose the one we liked best which was The Curator.
It didn’t take long to be seated, I think the issue was short staffed rather than lack of tables.
We ordered by scanning the code on the table.
Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and a peroni for Matt, cheese and ham omelette and a cider for me. Total £34.

Matt had another pint. Time seemed to be dragging.
Matt then brought a meal deal for the plane.
The gate wasn’t displayed until near boarding time of 12.30. Gate 42, the furthest away of course.
It didn’t take long to board. Matt and I were in the middle section. The tv control was on the arm, so an older plane.

Staff were efficient and soon had our drinks and pretzels.

And the meal which even Matt didn’t mind.

I watched movies, The Lost City, Encanto, Last night in Soho, all these I really enjoyed.
West side story was the last movie, I know people rave about this, personally, I found it too long but I was getting restless anyway.
I also popped along to ask for more drinks during the flight.
The last flight I went on, I had trouble with my ears not popping for a while after. A friend recommended travel ear plugs, I tried these for the first time, what a game changer.
We landed early, about 5.30 and immigration was pretty empty.
Once again we were placed behind the family that took ages, too scared to move lines though 🤣
No problem at the desk, always a relief.
Baggage claim took ages.
The plan was to get an Uber but couldn’t see the signs, the WiFi wasn’t working. Matt had 02 which worked well but I had the app. In the end we just jumped in a cab. The journey was mad, the driver on the phone most of the time.
It was $50. I tried to pay with my card but it was rejected so paid cash. Our hotel was Rosen Inn Pointe Orlando.
Got into the hotel and I had a message from the bank asking me to confirm the payment. I panicked as I didn’t want to pay twice but also didn’t want them to stop my card. I ignored it and sorted it in the morning. I did pay the security deposit on my card which I used chip and pin for.
Dropped the cases off, had a quick change and went over to the Alehouse.

Not going to lie, I liked having my own bed 🤣
The alehouse was rammed, seats had been taken away so couldn’t get served at the table. The bar was full with people around it, in the end I went to the bar and ordered then sat at a table.

Total was $10 for 2 large beers.
Weather was perfect.
We decided to go back to the hotel and order there instead.
We sat outside near the pool for a little while then had a drink and shared chicken nachos in the bar.

Diet Coke and Bud light was $7.02
Nachos and bud light was $19.79
Shattered, went back to the room, I had a shower, I stayed to unpack but left it in the end.

🤣 separate beds are the way forward.
We really liked the hotel, location worked better for us (usually stay near chillis)

Agree about two beds- especially when the first few nights can be difficult with the jet lag!

Good to get there without any major issues! The holiday can really begin👍🏻

Glad travel day went well. Can I ask about the ear plugs - what ones did you get? My DD is really bothered with sore ears on flights (and has been ever since she was a child). She had vents in a few years back, but they don't seem to have made any difference. She went to London for a day a couple of weeks ago and they were really bad. It would be worth trying ear plugs.

These are the ear plugs I was recommended. I only used them for the landing and didn’t have any problems.

Yummy airport breakfast, nice to have a leisurely start to the day and be able to chill out in the room first. A bit of stress with your bank and the payments going through, I hope that got sorted out without too much difficulty the next morning.
