Confused on what cover I need

We are here in the US now and I was going to Uber everywhere (we are in North Carolina) but now I feel like I want to rent a car but I am not sure what insurance I need, do they assume you are from the US and will have car insurance then you just buy the additional cover? In the past we have hired from home and it was all inclusive so we didn't need extras. I feel like I don't know what I need I have been in touch with DFCH but I forgot they would already be closed today. Not sure if I should just stick with the Ubers or rent for the last 7 days.

Just book online with a UK company like Andys
You get the voucher automated anyway
Ive done this a few times when I decided to pick up a car when here
Id only use UK companies due to insurances for UK drivers
