Spectrolee - Travel Day - The Fingers Crossed Trip

I hardly slept a wink last night, thought I'd be fine after getting through the tests yesterday, but was lying awake still at 3am (got my wordle and quordle done early though lol)

The hotel was great, don't know if we were just lucky but there was not a sound lovely and peaceful. The bedroom windows were amazing- could not hear the motorway outside at all.

We had agreed to meet for breakfast at 8am (breakfast starts at 4am with continental choices, and hot food is available from 6am)

Small but good selection for breakfast

Ready to check in!

Check in was really easy.
The airport was quite quiet this morning, and the guy checking us in at the Icelandair desk was really nice.
He asked to see the paper copies of our Vaccine Certificates and our negative test certificates (we were unable to upload them onto the Icelandair website in advance.
He also checked that we had our attestation forms for the USA)

We headed straight up to the gate away from the madness of the main area
Our plane is ready and waiting for us

Gave the kids some homemade goody backs to keep them occupied on the plane.

Boarding for the flight to Iceland was by row number and it worked really well. The kids were given a little activity pack as we boarded.

The inflight entertainment looks really good, will save watching some movies for the next flight to Orlando.

The flight took off on time at 12:40, and at 1pm the kids were given snack boxes. Joni was delighted and got stuck in.

Once the kids had been given their meals the trolleys came round.

While kids get meals provided, adults have to pay for any meals/snacks and alcoholic drinks, (soft drinks are complimentary)

You can choose meals from the menu card, but there is also an option to book from a wider selection in advance. We have done this for the second leg of our journey.

Davie and I opted for the tapas snack box plus some olives, Matt had a sandwich. Everyone else just had some drinks.

We landed in Iceland just before 3pm
We had to walk off the plane across the tarmac into the terminal. Horizontal rain and a biting wind greeted us - brrrrr

They were doing random security checks on transferring passengers, and Isabel got whisked away for 15 mins.

Matt gave the kids some Krona to spend, and they picked some nice tacky souvenirs haha

The kids also got postcards for their teachers

In a strange turn of events, Davie got selected for additional screening just as we were boarding the flight, and he was taken away to another area. Isabel waited for him while the rest of us went ahead.
Now, Davie is not the most patient of people, so god knows exactly how the conversation went. Basically he challenged them on doing this, and they told him it was tough luck, and told him that 3 people had already missed their flights due to this additional screening today - two on the Washington flight, and one woman who was going to Denmark
This seems a bit weird - would they not have to take their cases off?

Anyway, he did make the flight, thank goodness, and we were soon on our way finally see the Mouse.

The kids were given an activity backpack while boarding.

As soon as the fasten seat belt sign went off the kids meals arrived. These were the same as the last time. We thought this would be a hot meal this time, but it was the same cold cheese bread as the previous flight. Didn't stop Joni from putting a dent in it (she must have hollow legs, she eats everything)

We had pre-ordered our adult meals - Gary and Isabel chose the 3 course hot meal, the rest of us opted for the beef and noodle salad.

I got some red wine - €7 each or two for €10 (I got two)

Our pre-ordered meals arrived at 19:10

When we booked we knew the kids got a free meal, however online it showed a pasta bolognese. Unfortunately, as mentioned above, all they got was a cold cheese focaccia (we will pre-book additional lasagnes for the way home. Joni ate hers, but needed something warm. She ended up with half of Gary's lasagne, and Ed ate Isabels. We bought some sandwiches to plug the gaps.

Apart from that the flight went uneventfully.
Joni and Ed played for a while, then Joni conked out at 10pm listening to her Harry Potter audible book.

We landed just after 1am (9pm local time), we're quickly through customs, and after a short wait for luggage (and the usual going out of side A instead of side B and lugging cases back across the airport) we were soon on the free hotel shuttle on our way to the Wyndham Garden MCO.
We got here at 22:45

The rooms are huge and immaculate

And taking after her mum, Joni is blogging her day!

Yay! Good travel day overall and nice to know you are there safe n sound.

Poor davie with the extra security check. I can just imagine the conversation 🤣 can’t blame him for being annoyed though.

Love that Joni is a wee trainee blogger!
