Travel in 5 weeks, Superficial clots. What to do?

A bit of background- DH has previously had both superficial and a deep vein, all of which are declared on insurance.
We fly in 5 weeks and yesterday DH was diagnosed with several superficial clots in his thigh. Medication has begun , and he’ll be reviewed again on Friday to check that they haven’t moved into his deep veins.
He asked at the hospital and they said he’d be fine to fly as he is but if it progresses to DVT he has to wait 2 weeks after starting treatment.

Do I ring the insurance now and get it noted? Do we wait and see what happens at his next appointment?
This is the only time of year that we get a proper holiday due to my teaching and the kid’s ages at school. I’ve already been looking into a back up plan and will have to hope that DVC will not just place all our points into holding if we have to cancel😫

I’d get it noted with the insurers just to be on the safe side as soon as possible then update them if need be. If it does go to his deep veins and is fit to fly following 2 weeks treatment then this would still be in time for you to travel I assume? If so, the insurance should cover it as long as he has medical clearance to fly though I’m not sure if they would increase cost to cover this.

I suffer from deep vein clots myself and several other conditions so my insurance is expensive but I’ve always been able to get cover.

I hope you don't mind me asking on your thread but I was wondering if I could ask about who you have managed to get travel insurance with as I have had a massive DVT this year and it is under investigation. I won't be going away any time soon but nice to know for the future. Thanks

Staysure, we were with them on an annual policy before his first DVT and have stayed with them.

Thank you. I’ve made a note on the file and need to ring back on Friday to tell them about his next appointment but I know anything could happen even after that.

I hope it’s good news on the next appointment. I know how worrying it can all be so hope everything will be more clear and you’ll get to get away soon

So our insurance are now saying that DH won’t be covered even though he’s fit to fly.
Has anyone managed to get cover for a superficial venous thrombophlebitis and preventative anti-coagulation meds? My concern is now not the clot but is potential bleeds

I always recommend this medical insurance search as it was recommended to me following being intensive care and having to undergo 5 surgeries for clots. I found insurance for travel 5/6 months later and I was on two enoxaparin injections a day but it wasn’t cheap.

They quoted me £400+ for annual and £1200+.
Low and behold, DHs bank account are covering him thank goodness
