Well I’m ill with covid in my Disney pjs , drinking hot chocolate in my Tinks mug from my Disney kitchen and thinking about our next trip. Guess what we go without kids too so they really can do one. I wouldn’t like those people at the park bet they are a right miserable lot .
We don’t just go to Disney we do see other places .
I think they are strange in not understanding or being able to imerge yourself into the spirit of which it’s intended . I’m sure some of these probably spend more time on fantasy games etc than a 2 or 3 week holiday to a Disney theme park.

Hero worship of Walt as some kindly old gent who just wanted to make people happy as opposed to the ruthless businessman with some very questionable views that he was is another thing that baffles me.
And visiting Disney to the exclusion of seeing the world in all of its amazing diversity seems wasteful to me…and finally Disney tattoos…. Just seem odd to me. Grown men with children’s characters on their calves… I don’t get it and I find it a bit creepy.
I like theme parks - and a bit of escapism is fine, but its just a holiday.
I haven’t seen many Disney films, but I have been to all of the Disney Parks worldwide just to experience them. It’s part of a holiday not a whole holiday for me.
In my view, the world is too big to just keep repeating the same experience, so of course it seems odd to me when others don’t see that and keep on returning…
Ultimately it does no harm and its down to individual choice, but yes, I do find extreme Disney adults a little strange
I think “extreme” anything is odd. But that’s just how some people are. I love Star Wars but when I see people dressed up as their own characters in Galaxy’s Edge I wonder if I’m as big a fan as I think I am .

I agree with you about the people who revere Walt Disney. He was a business man who was good at what he did, nothing more. He wasn’t Gandhi for crying out loud.

I do tend to go to WDW at the exclusion of everywhere else but that’s financial. It takes most of our disposable income to go there so we have to make a choice. We also have a brother and his family in Ireland so travelling to see them takes a chunk of our income as well as annual leave so travelling elsewhere is harder. Not that I don’t want to see other places but I enjoy WDW so much I’m happy to keep going back. Lots of people holiday to the same place - look at people who buy a property abroad. I like familiarity and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Disney would not continue to exist without the spending power of adults.

I really don't care what other people spend their money on.

There is definitely a culture out there of people that like to rain on the parade of literally anyone.
Films, Disney, music. There are always people out there that like to look derisively on those that seem to find happiness in anything.
Do I get the Abba hype? Absolutely not, can't go them. Do I judge those that absolutely adore Abba? Heck no! You enjoy a bit of Voulez Vous!

I didn't read the article in depth, really just skimmed it, but I see it's reporting on something that started on Reddit. On that basis alone I wouldn't give it any credence at all. Reddit (for those who don't know) is everything that's wrong with the internet - a breeding ground for wackos, conspiracy theories, pornography and worse.

I spend quite a lot of time on it, but that's another story

Live and let live I reckon, if people want to spend their hard-earned cash on buying Disney merchandise and going to Disney every year that's entirely their prerogative. They've found what makes them happy in life and good for them.

I enjoy Florida as a whole rather than Disney as such and will probably not return as we have found other places we enjoy more.
However, Disney will always hold special memories for me as we had some fantastic times there with our kids. They grew up watching the Disney and Pixar films and it was wonderful watching their excited faces as they were brought to life on our trips.
I don’t own even one piece of Disney merchandise as it isn’t to my taste but I really couldn’t care less if other people are mega fans. If it makes them happy and they are passionate about it then good for them. You are here on this earth for a good time, not a long time and there are far, far worse things to be obsessed by.

I’m another who doesn’t really watch Disney films, doesn’t buy merchandise, and sees the cultism that WDW seems to have manifested itself.
I do like the resorts and until last trip liked going to the parks but that is now waning.
I am waiting to see if we go Xmas 2023 and will re-assess but my love for WDW has definitely taken a tumble. A low point was when we were in MK at Xmas and I just thought we and the other guests were largely being taken advantage of with such a poor product for the money and taking its customers for granted.
Therefore we were fans, but not so much that our fandom cannot be broken and we decide never to return. Some are very obsessive.
We have not got anything Disney in the house, aside from some DVC and AP magnets on the fridge in the garage.
