Back a week, highs and lows

Flights: Tui
Accommodation: WorldQuest Resort, just off South I Drive.
Car Hire: Avis through Andy @ Discount Florida Car Hire
Parks - as it was the boy’s girlfriend’s first time we did most of them, both Universal parks, all Disney bar Epcot, SW, DC.

We arrived back in the UK earlier this week, following a great 2 weeks in Orlando. I don’t do trip reports usually but thought i’d give this a go.

We flew from Glasgow to Melbourne direct. We have previously flown into both Sanford & Orlando International but Melbourne was better than both. Outbound flight was delayed for 90 minutes, inbound was delayed nearly 3 hours. The team were very helpful.

Melbourne is a small airport with some construction going on. We were not given water or snacks on arrival but that wasn’t a problem. Collecting luggage before security is strange but they made it work and we were in the car hire queue within 40 minutes or so, we were premium though so cases were off quickly. The Car Hire desks are easy enough to find & the service from Avis was great, possibly because there’d been a couple of folk reappeared complaining that their car was too small or dirty. I think we ended up with a free upgrade as we’d booked a 5 seater standard suv but ended up with a 7 seater suv, a Nissan Pathfinder, which was superb,

The journey from Melbourne to WorldQuest took around 90 minutes. Straight forward & easy to navigate really straight along the 192.

First time at WorldQuest and we’ll certainly be back. 3 bed, 2 bath suite. Our bedroom and ensuite section was (or felt) bigger than a room at the Rosen. It was huge. Check in was swift & we were able to get settled quickly.

The only slight issue with the location was that the last mile of the drive back always took over 30 mins unless you were heading from the 192 and heading north up South International Drive. The intersection between the 535 & 536 was horrendous every day, no idea how there are not more accidents.

HIGHS:
- WorldQuest Orlando, best accommodation we’ve ever stayed in.
- Genie+, it worked really well for us.
- Cheddars Scratch Kitchen on I Drive, food was really good.

LOWS:
- Traffic, the driving is not nearly as much fun as it used to be (although the drive to/from the airport was good).
- Exchange Rate – Everything felt quite expensive this trip. As in the UK, it felt that generally all prices in the U.S had risen. And with the exchange rate only being around $1.20 it meant we definitely noticed the difference. Things that used to be $3 are now $4, previous trips at an exchange rate of $1.50 meant you’re now paying £3.30 for something that was around £2.

FAVOURITE EATERIES THIS TRIP:
Cheddars
Millers on the 535, we could never get into the one on I Drive.
Cheesecake Factory at Vineland.
Perkins.

Highlight - seeing DW, DS and his girlfriend absolutely loving the dolphin swim.
