first time trip planning to disney anaheim?help!

Disneyland may be the same size as DLP but there is a hell of a lot there we did all the rides in a day in October many multiple times but would not have without fatspass plus.

To give another view last October we went for a week, stayed in Anaheim (Clarion - kind of basic but fine)

We didn’t really explore California but may do on another trip, we got 5 day tickets and went into the parks 5 days and didn’t get bored in the slightest, amazing parks and the Halloween stuff knocked WDW out of the water.

The other two days we did Knott’s Berry Farm and a whistlestop tour around Hollywood, Beverly Hills and a couple of beaches with the Anaheim Tour company.

Flights were with Thomas Cook from Manchester and a lot cheaper than flights to Orlando tend to be.

We were apprehensive as we booked on a whim but overall it may be our favourite ever holiday and hope to go back next year. The ‘magic kingdom’ there may be slightly smaller but is easily my favourite single park of any I’ve been to, so much in there and so much history

What kind of prices would flights be in summer ?

Summer holidays can be £600-900, but guess you can pick them up cheaper if you keep checking back. We did 5 days at disney at Easter and loved it, though first and last days were only part days. Much prefer DCL to WDW, you'll have to like riding the same rides over and over mind. KnottsBerry is close by, easy to uber/lyft to get to, and defo recommended as you seem to have young children. If you do decide to expand the holiday then read some trip reports, plenty of options, San Diego would probable suit your family.

There was something we just loved about being in a hotel a 10 minute walk to both park entrances with 7/11 and loads of dining options on the way

Took out a lot of the stress of WDW when we are often waiting on buses in crowds etc

Really recommend anyone giving it a go

Which hotel did u stay that was ten min walk ? And was it pricey? Being so close?

Beware that on our trip last Easter most of the 'A' list rides were out of operation. For us, 2 days was much too long. We were on a San Francisco to San Diego West Coast run and all agreed that those two days could have been much better spent elsewhere. Having said this, It was still our best USA vacation ever as a whole.

This may well have changed as they build up towards Star Wars and in addition, we may simply have got unlucky.

Also is Yosemite out of the question to fit in with a Disneyland trip? I know they’re the same coast but over 300 miles apart. As it’s somewhere else I’ve wanted to visit too

We stayed at the Clarion, it was cheap (a bit dated, budget but actually fine), there were loads of hotels on the walk between the hotel and the parks, it’s just how it is, the parks are pretty much just off the main road. There’s a McDonald’s right opposite the entrance to the Disneyland area and then a few hundred yards in you have the bag checks then the entrances to The two parks and downtown Disney all together, so much different to Orlando.

I think it actually took longer waiting at crosswalks than it did actually walking.

Talking about it has made me want to book again now for next year.

Have a look at flights and hotel Packages on Expedia it’s where we booked and was all seamless

We went in October half term and paid £1700 total for 2 adults 2 kids with direct flights with Thomas cook and the hotel, we only ended up going as we had been quoted £1500 for 5 nights in a centre parks!
