Currency & Card - thoughts/advice

Hi Everyone, I am going to DLP with a day in Paris and I am looking to take a card, either a debit card or a pre loaded card, for the trip. Does anyone have any suggestions for cards that do not have fees for being used abroad? Also does everywhere in Paris and DLP take cards or are there still places that only accept cash? Just wondering if I will need to take much cash also?

I’m going to use my Halifax Clarity Credit card.

Wasn’t planning on taking any cash. But maybe I should get a few euros? Do people tip in France? What is the tipping culture? Just thinking if the culture is to tip, I might need some euros.

Interested to see replies. But to answer your first question, Halifax Clarity card has always worked well for me. 👍🏻

For me I’ve got a nationwide flex plus account £13 with free family travel insurance and free cash usage abroad both withdrawals and spending best bit they don’t have a minimum term so you can revert it after your trip

Monzo it’s a debit card uk current account no charges best rate of any for exchange (Mastercard standard rate) and as it’s in sterling you can use in the UK anything you don’t spend, oh and it’s free.

I used my Chase debit card last month, which not only was fee-free for spending over there, but also builds up cashback for the month too, and gives a good exchange rate. It was accepted everywhere. Each time I bought anything, I got a message from Chase telling me how much I'd spent in GBP, which was handy.

We had around 130 Euros left over from our last holiday to DLP, and I used that in World of Disney in the Disney Village with no issues.

I have fair fx which we used successfully in orlando last year . Kept it open so will add euros for our trip later this year. Have normal credit card for back up. And a few hundred euros in cash.

We were there last October, and just a word of caution, We saw many cards being declined for whatever reason, make sure you have cash too, whether this was some glitch over the four days we were there I don't know, but as I say there seemed to be a few declined.
