Sarasota or Clearwater

Hello there,

We are off to Florida next may and we are going to be spending 5/6 on the gulf coast and cant decided between Sarasota or Clearwater. We want to stay in a nice hotel, after a week in a villa in Orlando.

What are the pro's and con's of both for a family of 4 with 2 DS 8 & 10 ?

Please help, because DW and I don't know where to go and we've been talking about this for months !

Thanks in advance.

Max

I much prefer Sarasota to Clearwater. We have just booked Sarasota for the end of Feb, with a combination of Presidents Week and Snowbird season it has cost a fortune!
I think though that Clearwater would be better with children.

If you stay in a hotel with a private beach ,(Ritz Carlton Sarasota for example) then Sarasota wins hands down. If you are going to be on the public beaches then Clearwater is better

They are pretty close though so maybe do a day trip to the one you don't stay at

I was thinking more of the childrens activities in Clearwater. Little
Toot and Sea screamer both have Dolphin watch and there is Winter the Dolphin from the film at the Aquariam.
Pier 60 is a good hotel.

I would also choose Sarasota but for some fun activities such as anna-marie has suggested you could do a day trip to Clearwater

I prefer Clearwater as there is much more to do, we stayed at Pier 60 hotel and would either go up to the rooftop bar to watch the sunset or you can go onto the pier it's truly magical anyway that's just my opinion I think that whatever you choose it will still be a good choice

It's quite trek between Sarasota and Clearwater with two youngish children, about 50
Miles each way.

Thanks for all your replies, maybe we should stay in clearwater and go to sarasota for the day ?!

I think clearwater might be better with things to do for the boys !

Now the next decision is which hotel ?!

Thanks

We stayed in Siesta Key last time but have chosen Clearwater this time as all the reviews says it is a bit more livelier with restautants etc in walking distance. We are staying in a condo for one week booked through homeaway.
