Insurance Gold/Platinum
Hi, can anyone advise me what the difference is between Gold Insurance and Platinum rates with DFCH and other hire companies?
On DFCH it states Gold is 1 driver, full to full tank and no charge, Platinum is 4 drivers, full to empty and no charge. Is there anything else you get with Platinum over Gold as I can’t find any further information out about it unless I’m just not looking hard enough... Is Gold classed as the “standard minimum” cover & Platinum covers everything you need and no need to pay anything extra? I’ve never really looked at what the difference is before. Thanks.

It's not as easy as just looking at Gold and Platinum as all the sites use different terminology.
For example Virgin have Basic Minimum - Run a Mile! Fully Inclusive - Good Fully Inclusive + GPS Gold Plus - 4 drivers bring back empty of fuel Andy has Gold - 1 driver bring back full Platinum - 4 drivers bring back empty of fuel So as you can see Virgin Fully Inclusive and Andy's Gold are the same thing. The same as Gold Plus with Virgin and Platinum with Andy are the same So it's all about reading between the lines sadly. But invariably if booking through a UK website the Insurances are identical - but still please check.

Thank you, so the actual cover I buy between gold and platinum are the same, I’m just paying for the extra drivers and privilege of dropping the car off empty rather than full?

Sorry for the delay. Lovely here so polishing the car!
Yes you are correct. Just make sure you have full CDW/LDW and $1.000.000 SLI/EP. That's the big 2 Insurances. Everything after that is a bonus. I used to use Brits and Virgin a lot as my Son would then drive. I personally wouldn't pay for 4 drivers and fuel as it's normally not cost effective.

I’m thinking platinum is pointless too, our Mrs is wanting to driver over there when we go, I might just try to convince her otherwise and save the money for something else while we’re out there.

In that case and if the price is right I would go with the Gold package with Andy.
You can pre pay for fuel if you want at online check in stage or even as you leave the garage. The barrier Guys will sort that out. As an aside if you contact Andy he can sometimes get packages for 2 drivers if you ask.

Have a look at the prices before you decide, we had a 4 day rental in Vegas and it was only £2 a day difference between the gold and the platinum, took the platinum, we didn't need extra drivers but £8 for a tank of petrol was a bargain.
Just looked on Netflights and it seems to be around £4.60 a day extra now, for any size car so could still be a good deal for a weeks rental, less so for 2 weeks. |
