We've flown indirect both times and have not been up particularly early either day. We stay in a villa so choose to have the first day as a non-park day so there's less pressure on how we feel and we don't start the holiday too tired. No-one knows how you guys will feel, if you've had a smooth enjoyable journey or a stressful one etc etc will all change that.
I would def plan for MK but not book crystal palace too early just in case you can't get up, if your up early you can grab something before you leave for the parks to keep you going, and either way you can still head park for a nap by the afternoon.

Despite feeling absolutely shattered on our travel day and we went direct I think it worked out we had been awake 24 hours when you factor in the time difference (in UK, up at 4am to get ready to go, 6am check in at airport, take off 10am, we landed at 2pm local time which would have been 7pm UK, then went straight over to City Walk - we were offsite but at entrance to Universal- where we stayed until about 11pm local, 4am UK before heading back to hotel), we found that we were still wide awake for the first full day, up at 7:30/8am, and at the park by 9am.
But everyone is different. I think I would do as others said if you absolutely have to book breakfast go for a later slot. I would personally never book meals etc for the first day and just play it by ear, but that is just my own thought.
