Cuban fun...First full Day!

Up at 7ish. Saw sunrise...

We had breakfast at La Taberna which was one of the restaurants offered as part of our upgrade. It was waitress service with lovely views. We had a tray of goodies plus we could choose what we had as the main breakfast. We both opted for omelettes. DH isn't a great fish lover and all omelettes on offer had salmon in? Very bizarre but he just asked for it without and they were both yummy.

One thing we had noted from reviews across Cuba was the food wasn't great. Our primary focus for our holiday was to spend quality time together and relax. Whilst we like our food we weren't overly fussed.

We went and found the diamond club beach area and set up base. DH snorkelled using the hotel equipment on offer whilst I read and chilled. We had our own barman who was very proactive so we drank lots of daiquiris and mojitos, then DH moved onto Cuba libres before discovering a dark rum version called cubata!

Watched crabs digging their way out of the sand and lizards scurrying around...

Stayed on the beach then went for lunch at La Taberna.

We had a welcome meeting at 2.15 with our rep Silvio, was good actually, very informative. We booked a jeep safari for Saturday!

We went back to beach where we went out on a pedalo, again as part of the hotels equipment. I was brave! It was good fun but very tiring! Then we chilled for a bit sampling pina coladas! My new found fav from the beach bar!

We had the DC concierge come and find us to ask if we wanted any bookings made at the restaurants. We left it in her capable hands and she did very well.

Went to room where DH retrieved a lizard and frog from our bathroom!

Showered and changed for eve, we had an evening meal booked at Ranchon, a traditional Cuban restaurant on the beach. It had beautiful views with great live Cuban music, however it was very humid and sticky. I had stuffed plantain and DH had homemade croquettes. For main I had chicken (on the bone ) and DH had pulled beef. Pud was a lemon and coconut flan, but was in the shape of a ball! Very tasty though! Like a coconut macaroon.

We walked along the beach admiring the sunset and avoiding the crabs! Saw stray dogs which made me sad, they were curled up on the beach obviously settled down for the night...

Back at the hotel we checked in via the wifi (very intermittent but did the job for us) we then found a spot in the Piano Bar, best thing was it had aircon! Drinks were fab as was the service, the guy playing the piano was amazing but unfortunately the holidaymakers singing wasn't.

That penultimate photo of the sunset is stunning!

Lots of lovely looking food and delicious sounding cocktails! Certainly a relaxing day!
