Paperwork questions...
Hello there,
33 days to go ! We last went in 2013 and at the time there was the whole confusion about having to bring an international driving licence ... At the time I got one just to be on the safe side ... What is the situation now ? Do I need an international driving licence ? Also what is the situation with the old paper bit of the driving licence ... Do I need to get some code off the DVLA prior to going? Thanks in advance. Max |

You need neither. Just your driving licence (if Photocard type) or your DL and passport if old paper type.

I am reading you need to apply for the code from the DVLA?
You can apply for the code 21 days prior to travel and it needs submitting at Alamo etc: However I also read each time they ask to see both parts of the licence, which was utter rubbish... But, I will take both parts once again and get this code, the link if which is here: gov.uk/view-driving-licence

You don't need the DVLA code. You don't need the paper license unless you don't have a photo card.

This is bad advice for car rental in Florida. You do not need the DVLA code. As for taking the paper part, that piece of paper is just the it is not part of a DL. Think of it this way, if you obtained a DL after 8th June last year you would not have got a paper part anyhow. Also your paper part would not have been updated and you could have had nine points added to your DL by now,
Print the code and take your scrap paper part of the DL if you must, but you will definetly NOT be asked for either by the hire company or the police. virgin Holidays for one, actually state on their car hire t & cs that you do not need the code. |

If you check the big rental companies websites it specifically says codes and paper part of the license is not required.
The paper part is of no validity whatsoever. It should be shredded or put in the curio drawer.
